200 9 Japanese Language Program for High School Students

( Duration: July 1, 2009 ~ July 15, 2009 )

【Points to be heeded】

1. Qualifications Eligible to apply for this program are those who:

(a) are currently studying Japanese language at high school in the U.S. (age of 15 to 18 as of July 1, 2009);

(b) have authorized at least Level 4 in the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test or possess equivalent ability of the Japanese language;

(c) have not stayed in Japan for more than 1 week (7 days) in the past 5 years (from July 1, 2004 to July 1, 2009);

(d) have no other plan to visit Japan for study or training program except for this program;

(e) have nationality of a county that has diplomatic relations with Japan; and hold nationality or permanent residency in the U.S.

(f) have not completed compulsory education in Japan; and

(g) are in good physical and mental health.

<How to travel to the Institute> No Attend Service (during the flight from the U.S. to Japan)

Unfortunately, we are not able to attend the student until he/she gets to the arrival lobby at the airport in Osaka. After completing the immigration and customs procedures, our Japan Foundation staff will be waiting for the student with the board “Japan Foundation” in the arrival lobby. Then, the staff will take the student to a bus or a taxi, which will be arranged by our Kansai Institute.

3. Expenses Covered by The Japan Foundation 1 Roundtrip Air Ticket (economy class)

2 Airport Tax and Foreign Travel Tax

If the pay any airport tax or foreign travel tax on their trips to Japan, the Japan Foundation will reimburse such costs after their arrival, in exchange of the receipts. 3 Accommodations

During the program ( 7/1 ~ 7/15 ), the Japan Foundation will provide a single room in the Japanese Language Institute free of charge. 4 Meals

Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) will be provided at the cafeteria in the Institute 5 Overseas Travel Accident Insurance

4. Schedule

April 30: Candidate (selected student) will submit all the application materials (including a “Certificate of Health” form, which must be filled out by a physician) by 4/30/2009.

Late-May: Student will receive an official “Invitation Letter” along with the detailed program information (including the flight schedule) from the Institute (through The Japan Foundation Los Angeles Office) by the end of May, 2009.

Early-June: Student will submit an “Acceptance Form” to The Japan Foundation Los Angeles Office.

Mid-June: Student will receive an E-ticket Voucher.

June 30: Student will leave the U.S. for Japan. (arriving in Japan on the next day)

July 1: Student will check-in at the Institute. (The program will start on the next day.)
