Much of history is depicted on the murals displayed in historical sites and painted on buildings to commemorate historic events in the county. While York County was active in most wars, noticeably absent are murals about the Civil War. McClure pointed out that the county was predominately Democratic, and that the majority of the county voted against Abraham Lincoln. York County also did not like the war and surrendered to General Early on 23 June 1863.

YORK DAILY RECORD EDITOR ADDRESSES STGC ON YORK COUNTY

“Dig deeper and learn more” was the theme of York Daily Record editor James McClure’s presentation to the Susquehanna Trail Genealogy Club on 22 April at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2100 Hollywood Drive, York, PA. His advice to a Only about half the eligible York County room of 40 genealogists and historians was to males participated in the Civil War. 6 From murals to old buildings, McClure moved to a photo of the Children’s Home of York and mentioned that when seeking York County ancestors, the genealogist might find some of his ancestors housed in this benevolent site.

McClure showed this photo of the intersection in Freysville, which he said is representative of many small towns in the county. “Three churches - Lutheran, United Church of Christ and United Methodist congregations - are bunched in Children’s Home of York City, York, PA the crossroad village of Freystown. 28 I’ve missed all but the first episode (Fridays are a bad night to watch TV). So I plan to take my laptop to a Wi-Fi location and catch up. Wi-Fi you say, what’s that? Well if you have a newer laptop most likely you have the ability to access other networks wirelessly (you don’t need a phone line or a Ethernet generally used during Internet presentations). There are several around the area. I use the Giant Café in the Delco Plaza Giant supermarket. Panera Breads also has it. Staples has it. Yorktown hotel has it. Most hotels also have it but you may need a password to access it (and you really should be staying at the hotel to use it). The Martin Library has it.
