Word Level I, Page 2

April 4, 2018

Welcome Cyberstudent:

You are currently registered for Word Level I (OAT157) online. Though the class does not start until August 24, 2015, you need to become aware of a few things.

All of the web pages important to you as a Delaware Tech college student are located at the portal called, MyDTCC. Use either website address (hold down the CTRL key to click on link directly from this document) http://my.dtcc.edu or http://www.dtcc.edu (at this link you would then need to click on MyDTCC (located on the right side of the webpage). You should bookmark the MyDTCC website address. You will need to use your DTCC username and password to login. The username and password needed to set up this account is provided on your registration form. For example, username may be jsmith and your password may be 010169 (date of birth). If you have misplaced your registration form you can call 302-857-1750 (a Dover number). This site will provide college wide, as well as, Owens specific information. Once you enter into MyDTCC you can access the sites discussed below without having to log into them individually.

 My Courses (BlackBoard): All of your courses, including this online course, are located at the My Courses tab (Blackboard). Possibly, not all of your instructors will be using BlackBoard as part of the course. There is also a student help web site provided to acquaint you with Blackboard located at http://www.dtcc.edu/edtech/blackboard/.

 Web mail E-mail System: All of the course information I send through e-mail will go to your @dtcc address. You need to check your school e-mail regularly. It’s important to remember you can send e-mail through BlackBoard, but you can only check e-mail through Web mail.

 BannerWeb Student Record System: Current students can register for classes, get unofficial transcripts and check on financial aid status through Banner Web.

 SNAP: Web Based training and assessment software that will be used with the textbook for duration of the course. All assignments and tests will be taken in the software. http://snap2010.emcp.com

The next item you will want to double check is that you have purchased the correct textbook. This book is used at the Owens campus only; therefore, it will have to be ordered from the Owens campus. The title of the textbook is Microsoft Word 2013, Signature Series, Paradigm Publishing, ISBN 9780763852009. The textbook is bundled with the SNAP 2013 which is a Web-based training and assessment tool that will be utilized with this course as well. The phone number for the Owens bookstore is (302) 259-6116. You may also click on the link I have provided to order the book online from the Owens bookstore. The Microsoft Word software does not come with the textbook. The software needed is Office 2013, which contains the word processing application Word and Access, which will be used for mail merge. This course teaches word processing features using Word 2013. PC’s will work with SNAP, you will have technical issues with MAC’s. I will release the course information prior to the start date of the class if you would like to get started; I hope it will be very easy for you to navigate. Follow all buttons in order and read everything carefully. Print out all documents which you feel are necessary. The calendar, for example, is very important and will have to be strictly followed. Late assignments are not an option. There is a serious consequence as a college student if you earn a U or an F for the course. Please feel free to speak to your advisor, Department Chairperson, financial aid or a counselor within Student Services. Word Level I, Page 2
