To ‘Newbies’; Temperatures can vary in August due to nippy, over-cast mornings and summer heat in the afternoon, so bring a light jacket, sweatshirt, lap blanket… that can be shed or put on, as needed. There are hiking trails, Stations of the Cross, and even a pool (for those inclined towards an icy dip). You may need an extra pool towel, sunscreen, sneakers, and/or hiking shoes, so pack, accordingly.

We will be hosting two 'Community Exchange' break-out sessions (a.k.a. 'Birds of a Feather') on Saturday afternoon, where job coordinators and other helpers of CORE, Finance, Post Sessions, Publicity, Registration, Weekend, Supply... positions can meet with couples in similar roles in other communities to exchange information and ideas!

Please Note: Interested couples can attend any Community Exchange meetings they wish and/or those considering a change in positions are also encouraged to 'sit in' and learn from more experienced couples during either session.

There will be two of these sessions and husband and wife may choose to attend more than one meeting, separately. IMPORTANT: NorCal’s Communities’ registration fees will be made via bank transfer from Community bank accounts after the weekend’s income/expenses have been accounted for and allocated (Approx. $350 per couple.) Individual couples should discuss payment with their own Community Coordinators. From San Jose / North: Proceed south on highway 880 (which changes name to Highway 17 as it crosses the 280 Fwy) towards Santa Cruz. 4 miles past the summit, turn left onto Vine Hill Road (There is a left - turn lane and a big yellow sign on the left side of Hwy 17 for St Clare's.) Drive2 miles and make a left turn onto Mountain View Road. (Notice a St Clare's sign there, too.) Mt. View road becomes Laurel Glenn Road. Drive to the top of the hill and turn left into the gated entrance. (Assuming no major traffic, the drive from San Jose takes about 30 to 45 minutes.)

From Ocean Street in Santa Cruz: Drive away from the downtown area on Water Street. Turn left from Water Street onto Market Street and stay on Market. Market becomes Branciforte Drive. After you've gone about 7 miles, look for Mountain View Road. Turn right onto Mountain View Road. Drive to the top of the hill and turn left into the gate.

From Watsonville / South: Proceed north on Highway 1 to Soquel. At the exit for Capitola / Soquel (also labeled as the Porter Street / Bay Avenue exit), turn right onto Porter Street - which becomes Old San Jose Road after about a mile. Drive 3 miles and turn left (just before Casalegno's Country Store) onto Laurel Glen Road. Continue another 2.5 miles and turn right into St. Clare's gated entrance.

You are welcome to arrive anytime after 3 PM on Friday to take it easy and enjoy the beautiful and peaceful grounds at Saint Clare's Retreat Center.

After Sunday’s lunch, we recommend that couples relax with a walk around Saint Clare’s or go have an early dinner in Santa Cruz… to avoid beach traffic.
