08710 DOOR HARDWARE
1.0 DESCRIPTION
1.1 DOOR, FRAME, & HARDWARE SCHEDULE SUBMITTAL A. Based on hardware indicated, organize schedule into "hardware sets" coordinated with paragraph 2.2 thru 2.4 below indicating complete designations of every item required for each door or openings; include the following information: 1. Type, style, function, size, and finish of each hardware item. 2. Manufacturer and product name of each item. 3. Fastenings and other pertinent information. 4. Location of each hardware set cross referenced to indications on drawings on floor plans and in door and frame schedule. 5. Explanation of abbreviations, symbols, and codes contained in schedule. 6. Mounting locations for hardware. 7. Door and frame sizes and materials.
B. Keying information indicating clearly how Owner's final instruction on keying of locks has been fulfilled.
1.2 REFERENCES A. By reference, the following are incorporated into these Specifications: 1. ANSI A117.1 - Specifications for Making Buildings and Facilities Accessible to and Usable by Physically Handicapped People. 2. ADA - Accessibility Guidelines. 3. Local, State, and Federal requirements. 4. NFPA 80 - Fire Doors and Windows. 5. NFPA 252 - Fire Tests of Door Assemblies. 6. UL 10B - Fire Tests of Door Assemblies. 7. UL 305 - Panic Hardware.
2.0 PRODUCTS
2.1 FASTENERS A. Furnish hardware with necessary screws, bolts, and other fasteners of suitable size and type to anchor hardware rigidly into position.
B. Furnish fastenings with expansion shields, toggle bolts, sex bolts, or other anchors according to material on which hardware is to be applied and as recommended by hardware manufacturer.
C. Exposed fasteners shall be finished to match the item fastened; all fasteners shall be the same metal as the item fastened. Exposed fasteners shall have Phillips heads.
D. Closers, holders, and pulls shall be installed with sex bolts.
2.2 MATERIALS A. Butts and Hinges, BHMA A156.1 – 1988 for commercial quality. 1. H1 – Equal to Hager BB1168 for interior/exterior heavy weight hinges. a. Sizes shall be as per manufacturer recommendations for door size and weights, unless otherwise specified. All doors shall have ball bearing hinges. 1) Door widths 3’-0” or less shall use standard weight (.134”) hinges. 2) Door widths over 3’-0” shall use heavy weight (.180”) hinges, unless otherwise specified. 3) Exterior door hinges shall be non-ferrous material. b. Number of Hinges – Provide number of hinges indicated but not less than 3 hinges per door leaf on doors 90” or less in height and one additional hinges for each 30” of additional height. c. Templates – Provide only template produced units. d. Screws – Finished to match hinges. e. Hinge Pins – Provide steel hinge pins for steel hinges; stainless steel pins for non-ferrous hinges; non-removable pins (NRP) for exterior doors; NRP hinges for out-swing corridor doors; non-rising pins for interior doors. f. Tips – Flat button and matching plug, finished to match leaves. g. Finish – 626.
B. H2 Continuous Hinges: 1. Stainless Steel, pinned type. (Steel pin & barrel only when scheduled. Geared aluminum hinges will be rejected. 2. Fire-rating: “WHI-listed and UL listed. 3. Capacity: Doors weighing up to 600 lbs. 4. Fasteners: As required by door and frame condition, and as recommended by hinge manufacturer. 5. Acceptable manufacturers: a. Stanley. b. Markar.
C. Bored and Preassembled Locks & Latches, BHMA A156.2. 1. Type L1 – Best, or must be able to accept a Best Cylinder, heavy duty knob cylinder. a. 93K – 2 ¾” backset b. 7 – 7 pin core housing c. AB –Entrance (F81) d. 15 – Lever style, contour angle return. e. D - Rose style, 3 ½” convex f. STK – Strike, 2 ¾” ANSI g. 626 – Finish, satin chrome plated.
I. Auxiliary Hardware, BHMA A156.16 1. WB Wall Bumpers – Equal to Rockwood 405, solid forged brass housing, concave rubber insert bumper, 2 7/16” D x ¾” projection, ANSI L12251, 626 finish. 2. SH1 Door Stop and Holder Heavy Duty – Equal to IVES 445 or 449, solid brass, 626 finish.
K. Door Gasketing Systems, BHMA A156.22 1. Provide continuous head and jamb weather-stripping on exterior doors of type where flexible seal strip is easily replaceable and readily available from stocks maintained by manufacturer. a. Extruded aluminum with color anodized finish as selected from manufacturer's standard color range, 0.062" minimum thickness of main walls and flanges, with pre-punched slotted holes for adjustment. (1. W Pedestrian Door Perimeters - Brush Insert complying with AAMA 701.2, minimum .50" bristle length of polypropylene or nylon set at 45- degree angle, equal National Guard Products D620A. (2. AS-1 Astragals – See Detail AS-1 on Sheet A-8; a combination of the following two items: (a. AW Brush Weatherstrip– Equal to National Guard Products 600A. (b. LG Metal Astragal – Equal to Hager 835S, stainless steel, 5/32” x 1-5/8” x full height of door. L. Door Sweeps 1. S1 – Equal to National Guard Products, Inc., 101VA with integral drip. 2. S2 – Equal to National Guard Products, Inc., OV634A.
2.3 KEYING
2.4 SCHEDULES A. Door Hardware Schedule – see attached sheet
B. Outline basic hardware functions to be followed for each different hardware set. Schedule shall include each door and frame assembly shown and shall to be used as a guideline by the hardware supplier to prepare a final detailed construction schedule which indicates manufacturer, series, functions, style, finishes, etc.. Submit to CG Facility Engineering for approval per Section SUBMITTALS.
3.0 EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION Doors, frames and hardware shall be examined for damage, defects, and suitability for the intended use. Any part or item found damaged, defective, or inadequate shall be made good before installation, or shall be replaced with undamaged and suitable material for the purpose.
3.2 INSTALLATION A. Fitting - Hardware shall be accurately and properly fitted; exposed parts shall be removed until after painter's finishing is completed, and after finishing is completed shall be reinstalled. Fixed parts shall be fitted snug and flush; operating parts shall move freely and smoothly without binding, sticking or having excessive clearance.
B. Adjusting and Finishing - After the work has been otherwise completed, hardware shall be examined in place for complete and proper installation. Bearing surfaces of moving parts shall be lubricated; latching and holding devices shall be adjusted to proper function; door control devices shall be adjusted to proper speed and power. Exposed surfaces shall be cleaned and checked for surface damage.
C. Thresholds - Surfaces shall be cleared of debris, voids shall be routed-out to sound material and refilled to form a solid, uniform bearing surface for entire length of threshold. Thresholds shall be set level and accurately aligned with frames and doors; shall be screwed not more than 12" c-to-c securely into substrate. 1. Seal thresholds exposed to exterior along interior bearing edge and ends with elastomeric sealant complying with Section JOINT SEALANTS to provide a watertight installation and allows accumulated moisture to drain to unsealed exterior edge. Drainage holes and weeps shall not be plugged or filled and shall be open to the exterior.
D. Head & Jamb Weather Strips shall be installed to interior frame stops bearing against inner side of door at head and jambs at out swinging doors, extruded flange must lie flat against stops and be fastened with screws. POP RIVETS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
E. Astragal Weather Strips shall be installed to vertical interior edge of each door to bear against each other on inner side of doors; extruded flanges must lie flat against doors and be fastened with screws. POP RIVETS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
F. Door sweeps shall be screwed to door exterior of out swinging doors and to door interior of in- swinging doors to fit closely between frame stops with flexible insert bearing against threshold sufficiently to provide effective weather seal. Integral or applied drip shall be applied to exterior doors.
