PURPOSE The purpose of this report is to submit the minutes of the Wishaw and Newmains Community Forum meetings to the Area Committee. The minutes of Thursday 6* March 2003 and Thursday 12th June 2003 are attached as Appendix 1 to this report. 2. She detailed the background and history from the “Make a difference Campaign” and the growth of “Volunteer Scotland” the umbrella group for Scotland, and the expansion of the group based in Monklands to be a North Lanarkshire role. NLC match Executive funding to support the group, with other sponsors to approx f500,000. The group support volunteers who are then placed to provide support services a “job centre” for volunteers. Mary detailed some of the industrial projects e.g. “Pacific Institute Programme” and the strategic role in promoting volunteers and the work of the volunteer groups. She detailed the background to the “Active Communication” strategy and its role in the Active Citizenship Agenda. She also detailed the involvement in the statutory disclosure process. The speaker dealt with a number of questions - from the Forum in relation to volunteers and training. The Centre have offices in Wishaw, Cumbernauld and Airdrie. (Robert Brownlie to send info from Cllr McKendrick). 5 Furture Agenda Items The Chair suggest Age Concern, Care & Repair and info for local residents). Mat Kennedy advised on “SAIL” - “Support & Advise for Independent Living” Now open in Fern Street, where equipment and information will be available for those who need it. The Chair advised on the possibility of funding from the Executive for Shopping assistance and home delivery. It is likely to be considered in June. Mrs McMillan raised a quotation regarding the new primary school for Cambusnethan. Introduction The Chair welcomes everyone to the meeting, and introduced Mr Gordon Terris, who was temporarily assisting from Community Services. 2 .oo Matters Arising Mrs McMilian asked about "Stay Warm". The Chair advised that they could not attend the Forum at present. The Chair intimated that the Shopping Assistance Programme was to be considered by the Council. Mrs McMillian raised a number of questions regarding housing issues in Cambusnethan which were succinctly answered by the local Area Manager. The Chair also advised that the problems in Cambusnethan Cemetery would be raised at the Crime Prevention Committee. 3.0 Future Agenda There was considerable discussion over the agenda and particularly the overlap with the Wishaw and Shotts Area Committee. It was agreed that the Chair and Vice Chair would meet with Officers to consider future business. ' Date of meeting Thursday September llthat 7.30 p.m. at Kings Street, Wishaw. .

The second annual quiz is now in progress and ths report provides background information. 2 Background 2.1 Eligibility Everyone who lives, works or studies in North Lanarkshre is eligible to enter. There are three categories:- Junior for those under 12 years; intermediate 12 - 18 years and an Adult Quiz Team.
