2021 Science Olympiad National Tournament Prizes & Awards – Winners! Special Prizes: Science Olympiad Founders’ Scholarship (Division C only): To celebrate the three founders of Science Olympiad, Dr. Gerard and Sharon Putz and Jack Cairns, Science Olympiad will provide five (5) outstanding student participants each with a one-time, non-renewable $10,000 college scholarship to the college of their choice. This award is available only to SENIORS who are varsity members of registered 2020-2021 Division C Science Olympiad team. Information and the application found here > soinc.org/programs/scholarships. Stevenson High School in Illinois, and Andrew Zhang from Syosset High School in New York Science Olympiad Spirit Awards (Divisions B and C): The Science Olympiad Spirit Awards are among the highest honors given to teams and recognize students and coaches that have a positive attitude, exemplify teamwork, have respect for the rules and their fellow competitors, and exhibit sportsmanlike conduct. One (1) Division B team and one (1) Division C team qualifying for the 2021 National Tournament each will be presented with $2,000 checks to be used toward furthering the school’s Science Olympiad program. Teams will be chosen by their work exhibiting the 3C’s of Science Olympiad during the academic year: Character and Citizenship in the Community. Teams, coaches and state directors are encouraged to tag their social media posts with the hashtag #SO2021ASU to be considered. Checks will be sent to the school post-event. Division C - Townsend Harris High School in Flushing, New York Coaching Excellence Awards (Divisions B and C): Four (4) middle school (Division B) and four (4) high school (Division C) coaches will be selected to receive free registration, building materials, first-look access to the 2022 rules and chance to work with top officials at the all-virtual Science Olympiad Summer Institute (SOSI) July 11- 16, 2021. (Valued at $600) Winners will be announced during the invite-only Science Olympiad National Tournament Virtual Coaches Meeting on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 and posted publicly online the same day. Nominate a coach or nominate yourself to receive this award here! Complete your application by Friday, May 7, 2021 at 5:00pm CST. Must be school faculty and coaching a registered team. Division B - Beckendorff Junior High School in Texas, Triangle Day School in North Carolina, Bell School in Illinois, and Centennial Middle School in Arizona. Division C - Mount Lebanon High School in Pennsylvania, Canyon High School in California, Northmont High School in Ohio, and Troy Athens High School in Michigan Science Olympiad Volunteer of the Year Award: Science Olympiad will choose and announce the National Volunteer of the Year for service to the program. The Award will be announced during the invite-only Science Olympiad National Tournament Virtual Coaches Meeting on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Congratulations to Thuan Duong, Scilympiad platform developer Ward’s Science: Will provide six $500 gift certificates (one each) to the top three winning teams (1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall) in each Division B and C at the 2021 Science Olympiad National Tournament. The Science Olympiad community will vote, and the winner will be announced on Monday, May 17, the first day of the National Tournament STEM Expo. Congratulations to Holt High School in Michigan. 1 Award Distribution Process: Medals in Places 1-6 will be awarded to winners of the individual qualifying and trial events. Plaques will be awarded to the coach of teams in overall places 7-10. Inscribed trophies will be awarded to the coach of teams in overall places 1-6. Any scholarships or individual event awards will be sent to students post-event via email notification. All awards will be sent to the head faculty coach of the team after the ceremony concludes, to the home or school address. Individual Event Awards: Boomilever (Division C only): Each of the two students on the winning Boomilever team will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice, redeemable upon graduation from high school.
