Post title: Project Manager GCRF-BRECCIA Academic Unit/Service: Faculty Operating Service Geography and Environment Faculty: Faculty of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences Career Pathway: Management, Specialist and Administrative (MSA) Level: 5 *ERE category: n/a Posts responsible to: Principal Investigator(s) Posts responsible for: N/A Post base: Office based, Highfield Campus, Southampton.

Job purpose Working with the Principal Investigator(s) and Project Management Board, responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, execution, and management of the research project to maintain delivery within the project objectives.

Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities % Time 1. Project Planning and Coordination 20 Lead the planning and coordination of the research project to include defining the project deliverables, project tasks, resource requirements and development of full scale project plans, roadmap and risk analysis. Work in close liaison with the PI, the Project Management Board and the academic partners and stakeholders in sub Saharan Africa. Work in close liaison with other GROW project managers to share best practices and implement those in the project. 2. Strategic and Operational Requirements 20 Manage the implementation of the strategic and operational requirements of the project. Plan and schedule project timelines, track deliverables, assemble and co-ordinate project staff. Provide direction and support, quality assurance, developing project risks and issues registers, managing any project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs. Carry out detailed assessment and analysis of issues and problems, using specialist knowledge to identify and recommend appropriate solutions. 3. Financial Processes 15 Manage, monitor and advise the PI and Project Management Board on the budget and financial processes within the programme conditions and University regulations. Provide expert advice on resource planning and to ensure that the budget and resources across the projects are effectively and appropriately managed within the conditions of the funder. 4. Reporting and Stakeholder management 15 Monitor and report on progress to all stakeholders including any problems/solutions, implementing and managing project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs. Produce management information, reports, briefings and presentations as required to inform and update relevant members of the programme. Develop and manage an electronic database of project information and outputs and manage the co-ordination of research output and reports to RCUK. Advise the Project Board of relevant strategic and operational issues that should be considered and to provide project evaluations and assessments of results. 5. Impact 10 Support all partners in identifying and developing an impact strategy thus achieving Pathways to Impact as identified in the Proposal; this may include production of publicity material, creation of technology demonstrators, public engagement events, developing future researchers and leaders, and other methods identified by the Project Board. 6. Events 15 To plan, organize and attend events, workshops, conferences and project meetings, both nationally and internationally in the partnering countries. 7. Undertake such other duties as may be agreed from time to time with the Project Principal 5 Investigator.

Manage relationships with RIS, Faculty Finance. Actively engage with Co-Is, project partners and stakeholders in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi. Actively engage with members of the external Advisory Boards and other GCRF–GROW project managers.

Special Requirements A willingness to travel internationally (to Africa) for at least 3 times a year during the duration of project Flexible hours of work will be required by these activities as well as core hours. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the use and maintenance of confidentiality at all times.

Experience of project management in a development organisation and/or with developing countries. Postgraduate degree in environmental science/climate science/development studies.

Planning and Proven organisational ability and ability to Experience of organising international Application/ organising work to strict deadlines and manage multiple events and travel arrangements.
