A COLLABORATIVE VICTIM-CENTERED RESPONSE TO ELDER ABUSE Training for service providers and APS workers

October 29, 2014, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm Burnham Brook Community Center, Valentine Room 200 W. Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek, MI

Who should attend: Social workers, nurses, and other staff who work with older adults in our community; APS staff; domestic violence, sexual assault and court advocates; and other aging services professionals.

About the training: Elder abuse does occur in our community and the incidence is increasing as the population of older adults is rising. Elder abuse victims face complex challenges to the abuse situation. A victim-centered, coordinated community response focuses on the elder’s strengths and natural support networks and provides the framework for an effective model to enhance safety and quality of life for abuse victims. In 2013, Calhoun County implemented a Coordinated Response to Elder Abuse protocol. The protocol is just one tool to improve the capacity of our community to prevent and respond to abuse. Training is also an effective tool to ensure greater safety and an appropriate outcome for abuse victims.
