Long term goals: (Toolkit p. 4-5)  Facilitate students’ transitions from middle school to high school  Increase enrollment, diversity, and successful participation in upper-level mathematics classes, including AP Calculus  Actively engage students in mathematics  Improve success rates on standardized mathematics assessments  Improve communication between math teachers at all levels

Short term goals  Establish communication between Capitol Middle and Broadmoor High math teachers  Provide math teachers at Capitol Middle and Broadmoor High with test history of their students.  At Broadmoor High School: Identify potential 9th grade honor students and encourage their placement in Algebra I honors or geometry honors.  At Broadmoor High School: Identify potential 10th grade honor students and encourage their concurrent placement in Algebra II honors and geometry honors.  Facilitate understanding and implementation of comprehensive curriculum.  At Capitol Middle School: Identify students on all levels to target for acceleration through GK-12 program.  Establish math lab in each school for remediation, reinforcement, and enrichment Timeline:

By August 9 th: Complete membership list of vertical teams at each school. Print and distribute student test histories to math teachers Recommend student placement changes to administration Create and duplicate agendas for August 9th and 10th meetings

August 9 th or 10 th School level vertical teams meet Topics for agendas: Explanation of purpose and function of vertical team Peer observations Plan for future on-site meetings, dissemination of information, and evaluation

August 10 th: BHS-CMS Vertical Team Meeting at Capitol Middle 1:00 P.M. Meeting leaders: Hazel and Symentress Topics for agenda:

 What are strengths and weaknesses of 2005 Capitol graduates who are entering BHS?

 What can be done to ease transition from CMS to BHS? (e.g., With what teaching practices are CMS students familiar?)

 Planning for future meetings Meet alternately at CMS and BHS? Frequency of meetings? Future topics for discussion?
