1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.5.1 Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 year experience manufacturing similar products.

1.5.2 Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 year experience installing similar products.

1.5.3 Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship. 1.5.3.1 Finish areas designated by Architect. 1.5.3.2 Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by Architect. 1.5.3.3 Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

1.6 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

1.6.1 Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

1.7.1 Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.

1.7.2 Upon receipt at the job site, all materials shall be checked to ensure that no damage occurred during shipping or handling. Store products off the ground, on a flat, dry surface supported on

05 50 00-3 blocking spaced not more than 24 inches (610 mm) apart. Do not stack products more than four boxes high. Cover with waterproof barrier until used. Protect against damage, weather, vandalism and theft.

1.7.3 Handling: Handle materials to avoid damage.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS

1.8.1 Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.8.2 Field Measurements: Verify dimensions by field measurements before fabrication and indicate measurements on Shop Drawings.

1.9 SEQUENCING

1.9.1 Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.10 WARRANTY

1.10.1 Manufacturer Warranty: 1.10.1.1 Aluminum Extrusions and Components: Limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. 1.10.1.2 Powder Coat Finish on Aluminum Extrusions and Components: 5 year warranty against cracking, blistering, and peeling.

3 EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION - GENERAL

3.1.1 Examination: 3.1.1.1 Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared. 3.1.1.2 If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

05 50 00-15 3.1.2 Preparation: 3.1.2.1 Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation. 3.1.2.2 Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.1.3 Installation: 3.1.3.1 Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

3.1.4 Protection: 3.1.4.1 Protect installed products until completion of project. 3.1.4.2 Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.

3.2 DECK INSTALLATION

3.2.1 Examination: 3.2.1.1 Verify support framing is ready to receive decking. 3.2.1.2 Verify that joists are installed at spacing not exceeding that specified by manufacturer, for uniform live load required. 3.2.1.3 Verify support framing is sloped a minimum of 1/8 inch (3 mm), 1/4 inch (6 mm) recommended, per foot (305 mm) in the direction of water drainage and decking direction. 3.2.1.4 Do not begin installation until support framing has been properly prepared. 3.2.1.5 If support framing is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2.2 Preparation: 3.2.2.1 Examine, clean, and repair as necessary any substrate conditions that would be detrimental to proper installation. 3.2.2.2 Do not begin installation until unacceptable conditions have been corrected.

3.2.3 Installation: 3.2.3.1 Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, drawing details, and as follows: 3.2.3.1.1 Read warranty and comply with all terms necessary to maintain warranty coverage. 3.2.3.1.2 Use construction details and fastener spacing indicated on drawings. 3.2.3.1.3 Pre-drill all deck screw holes. 3.2.3.1.4 Pre-drill all thru bold and carriage bolt holes.

3.2.4 Cleaning: 3.2.4.1 At completion of work, remove debris caused by installation from project site. 3.2.4.2 Tap water containing mild soaps, detergents, or automotive cleaners should be used along with soft bristled brush.

3.3 HANDRAIL AND RAILING INSTALLATION

3.3.1 Examination: 3.3.1.1 Examine system components, substrate, and conditions where railing systems are to be installed. 3.3.1.2 Notify Architect of unsatisfactory conditions. Do not proceed with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.3.1.3 Verify that reinforcement and anchoring devices are the correct type, have been located correctly, and have been installed properly.

3.3.2 Preparation: 3.3.2.1 Coordinate drawings, diagrams, templates, instructions, and directions for installation of anchors, such as sleeves, concrete inserts, anchor bolts, and miscellaneous items having integral anchors, which are to be embedded in concrete as masonry construction. 3.3.2.1.1 Manufacturer shall supply all integral hardware for connection of handrail and railing to each other. 3.3.2.1.2 Provide hardware needed to connect handrail or railing to adjoining structures. 3.3.2.1.3 Coordinate delivery of such items to Project site.

3.3.3 Installation: 3.3.3.1 Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and detailed drawings. 3.3.3.2 Cutting, Fitting, and Placement: Perform cutting, drilling, and fitting required for installing handrails and railings. Set handrails and railings accurately in location, alignment, and elevation, measured from established lines and levels. 3.3.3.2.1 Do not weld, cut, or abrade surfaces of railing components that have been coated or finished after fabrication and that are intended for field connection by mechanical or other means. 3.3.3.2.2 Align handrails and railing so variations from level for horizontal members and from parallel with rake of steps and ramps for sloping members do not exceed 1/4 inch in 12 feet (6 mm in 3658 mm). 3.3.3.3 Fit exposed connections together to form tight, hairline joints. 3.3.3.4 Corrosion Protection: Coat concealed surfaces of aluminum alloys that will be in contact with grout, concrete, masonry, wood, or dissimilar metals, with a heavy coat

05 50 00-17 of bituminous paint. 3.3.3.5 Fastening to In-Place Construction: Use anchorage devices and fasteners where necessary to secure in-place construction. Separate dissimilar materials with bushings, grommets, or washers to prevent electrolytic corrosion.

3.3.4 Cleaning: 3.3.4.1 Tap water containing mild soaps, detergents, or automotive cleaners should be used on painted aluminum surfaces.

3.3.5 Protection: 3.3.5.1 Protect installed products from damage by subsequent construction activities, until completion of Project. 3.3.5.2 Field repair of damaged product finishes with Manufactures painted color touch up only. Return items that cannot be repaired to the manufacturer for repair or replacements.
