Project Description: Due Date: April 11, 2014

The objective of this project is to explore the phenomenon of the Internet meme. The context of the image and the words plays a large role in determining the interpretation of it. They are usually humorous in nature but don't have to be!

Important Dates:

Links to Concept Worksheet due: Wednesday, March 12

Sketchbook Check (final project design-at least 4 sketches): Tuesday, April 1

Final Project due (1 Diptych): Friday, April 11

Artist Statement due: Friday, April 11

Project Presentation Day: Friday, April 11

Peer Assessment Day: Tuesday, April 1 (Must hand in)

Self Assessment Day: Wednesday, April 9 (Must hand in)

Possible Themes:

-Education -Social Media

-Historical -Relationships

-Cartoons -Current Events Project Requirements:

-1 pair of images (same picture for both) - 2 different texts

or

-1 pair of text (same text for both) - 2 different images -Offensive language will NOT be tolerated

Learning Outcomes:

 Create their own dialogue between visuals and text

 Understand the importance of context: creator, background history on visual/text

 Gain an understanding of the rise of the Internet meme

 Explain the differences in perception/interpretation/meaning between their memes

 Participate in class discussions & presentations regarding the analysis of their own artwork and those of their peers using appropriate art terminology Questions to think about!
