Prelude: Ms. Candice Simons, Musician
*Call to Worship: Rev. Jeryl Salmond Minister: Come out of the shadows and into God’s light! People: We will follow the One who leads us to new life! Minister: Come, let us worship God!
*Morning Prayer: Cleveland Smith
*** *Opening Hymn: AAHH #508 “Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine”
*Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed Unison: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
*The Lord’s Prayer *Doxology: BPH #592 “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow”
Prayer of Confession: Minister: Let us confess our sins as we pray: (Unison) We admit, God our Light, that we do indeed try to tear Christ apart - a piece of him to support our politics, enough of him to support our foolish arguments, the rest of him to bolster our fears of others. We could leave immediately to follow him, but need to wait until we see where he might lead us. Forgive us Lord. Have mercy on us! May your hope light the ways in which we serve others, as we seek to follow Jesus Christ, who calls us to new life.
Assurance of Pardon: Minister Our Lord is a forgiving God, taking away the sins of all who repent.
People: Thanks be to God! Amen.

Matthew 4:12-23 12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee. 13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14 to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: 15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—16 the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”[a] 17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. 23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
