February 2016 (DO NOT WRITE IN BOOKLET) STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS

1. OBJECTIVE:

This practical exercise is designed to measure your understanding of TOPMIS II and your ability to perform transactions and search capabilities after receiving the TOPMIS II Overview training.

2. MATERIALS REQUIRED:

a. #2 Pencil b. Blank Paper c. Access to TOPMIS II and Citrix

3. INSTRUCTIONS:

Work individually to answer each of the questions pertaining to the TOPMIS II system. After the exercise you will discuss your answers as a class.

PART ONE:

a. Part one consists of 10 multiple choice general knowledge questions from the TOPMIS II Overview.

b. In order to receive a GO, you must answer 7 questions correctly. There is only one correct answer for each question.

PART TWO:

Part two contains the information needed to generate 3 queries using the TESS Search application.

Using TOPMIS II, create a query and save the query as “Captains”.

Circumstances for Query 1:

The Commanding General requested a roster of how many CPTs are assigned to HQ, HHC I CORPS (WAT3AA). He wants the roster arranged by name, SSN, PGRAD, and Basic Branch. Additionally, he wants the roster sorted by name.

NOTE: Students will create an Officer Roster for WAT3AA. They will move the following categories from the Available to the Selected Column: Name, SSN, PGRAD, BABR, UIC (Unit Identification Code). Have students click on the decode box for PGRAD and BABR. When the students choose UIC, select eMILPO (A1). Student will have to use the TESS Search application to determine the Basic Branch and PGRAD of J5.

Continuing from the previous steps. Have students add another filter criteria by choosing “AND” on the logical drop down menu of RECSTA, drag “UIC” from the selected column into the second line of the Database column in the Filter Area, leave the Operator set at “Equal”, type in “WAT3AA” under Condition, “AND” under Logical, Type in “PGRAD”, leave the Operator set at “Equal”, type in “J5” and leave Logical blank. Sort. 46 Records Using TOPMIS II, create a query and save the query as “Assigned”.

Circumstances for Query 2:

The Commanding General requested a roster detailing how many officers are assigned to HQ, HHC I CORPS (WAT3AA). He wants the roster arranged by name, SSN, PGRAD, and Basic Branch. Additionally, he wants the roster sorted by name.

NOTE: Students will create an Officer Roster for WAT3AA. They will move the following category from the Available to the Selected Column: Name, SSN, PGRAD, and BABR. Have students click on the decode box for PGRAD and BABR. When the students choose UIC, select eMILPO (A1). Student will have to use the TESS Search application to determine the Basic Branch.
