JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (Charitable Giving)

RESPONSIBLE TO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & FREELANCE DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and submit applications to grant making bodies
Manage the major donor programme, retaining current donors and recruiting others
Design and manage special appeals
Carry out prospect research into grant making bodies and high net worth individuals for approach
Develop Case for Support documents for individual projects and core activity
Create and manage cultivation and fundraising events
Proactively promote and encourage legacy giving
To contribute to the annual Development Department fundraising target, taking responsibility for raising c. £100,000 per annum from these initiatives (combined)
These responsibilities involve a number of key activities as outlined below:
Grant Making Bodies To prepare and submit applications to grant making bodies for range projects and programmes within Salisbury Playhouse’s activity plan To support the Executive Director and Development Consultant in the delivery of three year bids to major, national prospects Liaise with relevant departmental specialists and involve them where appropriate and necessary in the development of bids and delivering of grant conditions Ensure that effective monitoring and evaluation of projects is carried out where necessary and that reports are prepared on time for grant makers and that conditions are met To manage the major donor programme, retaining current donors and recruiting others
Major Donor Programme
Provide exceptional stewardship for all major donors
Regularly contribute to the overall individual giving strategy for major donors

Support the Executive Director, Artistic Director and Trustees in approaching major donor prospects for gifts
Prepare attractive and compelling mechanisms and tools for attracting major gifts
Manage gift aid contributions from major donors
Special Appeals
As and when required create strategies and implement fundraising activity for special appeals such as one-off events, projects and anniversaries
Prospect research
Set up and manage an ongoing programme of prospect research (grant making bodies and high net worth individuals)
Produce profiles of prospects for the Executive and Artistic Directors, Trustees and Development Consultant as and when required
Develop Salisbury Playhouse Wealth Screening data
Case for Support
To develop a suite of Case for Support documents for individual projects and core activity providing compelling and exciting funding opportunities for approaching grant making bodies and individuals, including the preparation of budgets and other associated information
Cultivation and fundraising events In collaboration with Development Officer (Membership) create and manage a series of cultivation and other fundraising events each year In collaboration with Development Officer (Membership) and Assistant to the Directors, manage and contribute to guest lists for Opening Nights, VIP and other events
Legacy Giving

To be proactive in creating legacy messages in our day-to-day fundraising cycle, using all opportunities available for its promotion
Responding in a sensitive and discreet way to legacy enquiries
Ensuring that any legator known in their lifetime is provided with excellent care, including the involvement on their families where appropriate
Raiser’s Edge database Ensure records are well kept within Raiser’s Edge (fundraising database) Use Raiser’s Edge to create reports for the Executive Director and Development Consultant as and when required.
Provide income reports for the Executive Director, Head of Finance & IT and Development Consultant on a monthly and quarterly basis To liaise with Ticket Sales and Finance Department for accurate recording within our database systems
Other To promote and support the charitable aims of Salisbury Playhouse To always act in the best interests of Salisbury Playhouse To take positive action to promote Equal Opportunities in all aspects of the work of Salisbury Playhouse To agree to abide by Salisbury Playhouse policies such as Health and Safety, Safeguarding etc To maintain confidentiality in all areas relating to Salisbury Playhouse To maximise income and minimise expenditure wherever possible To undertake any other duties appropriate to this role and/or in support of the Executive Director and Development Consultant To be flexible and to undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by Management.

A demonstrable passion for theatre/and or the arts
Desirable: Educated to degree level or equivalent
Experience of fundraising research tools/experience of prospect research
Previous experience working within an arts organisation/cultural sector
Experience of working with fundraising databases or CRM systems
Previous experience of fundraising
Personal attributes Ability to think proactively, creatively, innovatively and resourcefully
Ability to deal with a variety of ongoing activities in a calm, organised yet flexible manner
Aptitude to self-manage and prioritise tasks

Other Information Job activities may vary and evolve over time to meet business needs. Some evening and weekend work may be required e.g. for events.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Salary: £18,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday 1000-1800)
Holiday: 20 days holiday plus 8 days public holidays pro rata.

Term: Permanent contract subject to probationary period of six
months.
Pension: The Playhouse offers a group personal pension whereby
contributions can be deducted from salary if requested and is
currently matched by the Playhouse up to 1.5% of salary rising in line with auto-enrolment regulations.
The Playhouse is legally obliged to auto enrol all eligible employees into this scheme after three months’ employment, although the employee has the right to ‘opt out’.
