SOCIAL JUSTICE SUMMIT 2011 CALL FOR VIDEOGRAPHERS

We are pleased to announce that this year the Social Justice Summit Student Planning Committee will once again invite artists to apply for the opportunity to produce the promotional video for the Social Justice Summit 2011 – “If not me, then who?” If selected, your video will be used to market the event all March through mid April. Also, it will be shown the Morning of the Social Justice Summit. Read below to learn more and find out how to apply on p.2.

What is the Social Justice Summit:

The Social Justice Summit is a day-long conference designed to educate attendees about injustices locally, nationally and globally. These might include issues of human rights, environmental concern, inequality and oppression in a variety of forms. It provides a forum for people to exchange ideas about how to make change and opportunities to get involved through 27 workshops, a resource fair and keynote speakers/entertainers (visit our website to learn more about the event www.fullerton.edu/socialjusticesummit, including info on past speakers and workshop lists). Nearly 600 students, faculty, staff and community members attended last year.

Your Design Concept Should:

1) Be driven by this year’s theme: If not me, then who? 2) Have a powerful, thought-provoking image that immediately attracts attention. 3) Be representative of the mission of the Social Justice Summit. 4) Clearly incorporate the text: a. If not me, then who? b. Social Justice Summit c. Saturday, April 16, 2011 d. 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. e. Cal State Fullerton f. www.fullerton.edu/socialjusticesummit g. And the Image

Important :

1) This project is completely pro bono (unpaid). However, the benefits of submitting are many (see below). 2) The Summit is on April 16th, but we will need the finalized Video for Marketing by mid-February. This means that you must be responsible and willing to stick to a rapid production timeline, including multiple revisions. You must be available during Intersession to work on this if selected. 3) The process of picking the Summit Video is done by student committee, so you must be open to edits and feedback. This will, however, be filtered through only 1-2 points of contact on our end to simplify the process for our artist. 4) It is important that you know how to utilize graphic design programs (e.g. I- Movie, Windows Movie maker, Photo Story, etc.) that will enable you to create collateral pieces that are ready for high-quality view. 5) All submissions not chosen will become property of the Volunteer & Service Center, but will not be used without the consent of the submitting artist.

Why Submit?

This is a chance to not only collaborate on an event aimed at ending social injustices, but an opportunity to create a Video driven advertising campaign and multiple portfolio pieces. Past artists have won awards for their work and utilized their pieces and our strong reference to help land jobs. Past Videos have been used around campus and seen by over 1,000 students on campus and outside organizations. You can have a lasting impact through your work!
