One Act Drama Festival Information
Dear parent/guardian, Welcome to the world of drama! The commitment is intense until the beginning of April and then we are done. All this information is available at www.lamb.snappages.com, just click on the One Acts link at the top of the page.
IMPORTANT INFO: My favorite theatre event of the year is the Regional One Act Festival. This is a friendly competition between the various high schools in the city, as well as a few rural schools. The winner goes on to perform in Regina at the Provincial One Act Festival that takes place in the Riddell Centre Theatre. The rules are simple. We have a maximum of 10 minutes to set up, 60 minutes to perform, and 5 minutes to put it all away. It's an energetic, intense, and tremendously fun experience. We are entering 2 plays. One will be based on the works of Robert Munsch, directed by me. “How I Became a is written and directed by the talented Cyla Betker and supervised by Ms Bjorge. I’m very excited about Monster” both productions. Students cast in will have the option of joining the Munsch cast/crew. “How I Became a Monster” We will need 8-10 hours of rehearsal a week. If anyone is missing from rehearsals, it cripples the rest of us who are present so I am only interested in having dedicated people involved.
IMPORTANT DATES: March 5 Crew need to start coming to “How I Became a Monster” rehearsals. March 13 Crew need to start coming to Munsch rehearsals. TBA Rehearsal for Technical Crew in Peacock’s Centennial Auditorium (10 am to 6:30 pm) o We will be bringing our whole set to Peacock to rehearse in the space. And then we will be bringing it back to RVCI to continue rehearsing for the final performance. March 27 Preview Performance (tentative) o Anyone who would like to see the show is welcome to come and check it out. Tickets are $5 and go towards covering the cost of entering the festival. March 30, 31 and April 1 Regional One Festival at Peacock o We only perform on one of those days – I will write another letter outlining our schedule for that week when I learn what day/time we perform. . Update: “…Monster” will perform on Thursday, March 30 at approx. 10 pm. “Munsch…” will perform on Saturday, April 1 at exactly 1 pm (this is not a joke). May 4-6 Provincial One Act Festival at the University of Regina o If we win our regional festival, we go on to provincials. o We may also have the opportunity to attend provincials as observers to watch the other plays. REHEARSALS: Munsch: Sun 4-7 pm, Mon 3:30-5 pm, Thur 7-9 pm, and Sat 3-6 pm. “How I Got Away with It”: Sun: 12:00-3:30, Tues 3:15-5:00pm, Wed 3:15-5:00pm (some lunches)
COST: The cost of being involved with One Acts is $8, to cover the required membership fee for the Saskatchewan Drama Association. If this is a hardship for your family, please let me know and I can arrange to have your fee covered.
REMIND APP/FACEBOOK PAGE: Remind is an app that lets me communicate with you and the students and vice versa directly without having to share contact information. I use this a lot when sending out reminders and updates about rehearsals. Here are the links to join the various classes Ms Bjorge and I have: Lamb (Munsch): To join go to https://www.remind.com/join/e7ahd7 or text (438) 800-2986 the message: @e7ahd7 Both Casts and Crew: To join go to https://www.remind.com/join/rvcid or text (438) 800-2986 the message: @rvcid Both: Both groups have access to the private Facebook group “Riverview Drama Extraordinaires” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/leapingllamas/) to use for posting reminders or video clips of important scenes.
FORMS: Please fill out the following forms: o Saskatchewan Drama Association registration/media release form (every year) o Participation/Transportation Permission form (to transport your son/daughter to the theatre and participate in the day of our performance and our adjudication)
VOLUNTEERING: If you would like to help find out in any way, let me know. I could use help in the following areas: o Costumes o Construction/painting of the set/props o Transporting the set and participants to and from Peacock on the days of our performance and adjudication o Chaperoning the time at Peacock, volunteering at the door with tickets and programs
ATTENDING THE PERFORMANCE: Each night there are 3 plays. Participating students are expected to attend all three sessions. There is no cost for them to attend; a festival pass is included in their membership fee. The cost for a non-participant to attend a session of plays is $10. There is no discounted rate for attending a portion of the evening. We don’t get any free tickets to give away unless you are attending events as a chaperone or a volunteer. If you have any questions or concerns that I haven’t addressed, feel free to contact me via email at [email protected] or call Riverview at 306-693-1331. This truly is a wonderful experience and learning opportunity for our students here at Riverview and we are happy to offer it!
