Nuclear Reactor Plans to be Designed by GE and Westinghouse The reactors, if built, would be the first nuclear plants in the country in 30 years. NuStart LLC hired the companies to design the plans and said that any new units would be operating no earlier than 2014. The units could cost as much as $2 billion each. Oil Field Discovery in Utah Could be Largest in 30 Years Wolverine Gas & Oil Corp., a small privately held company, announced the discovery. The oil field, which could contain as much as a billion barrels, would be the largest onshore discovery in at least 30 years. TEPPCO to Phase Out High Sulfur Diesel by End of Year The key refiner of the 5,000 ppm sulfur content fuel on TEPPCO’s system, Lion Oil, said that they are switching to 500 ppm product. Universities, Consulting Firms Study Hurricane Ivan Damage Results from analyses by universities and consulting firms of damage caused by Hurricane Ivan may lead to future design changes in oil and gas facilities in the Gulf of Mexico. Torp Technology Planning LNG Facility in Gulf of Mexico The Houston based company is planning an LNG receiving and regassification facility in the Main Pass area of the Gulf of Mexico. Clean Coal Processing Plant to be Operational Next Year in Kentucky CoalTek, the designer, claims the facility will be the world’s first electromagnetic clean-coal processing system. The plant will be located in Calvert City, Kentucky. The plant will convert low grade coal into high grade coal by reducing moisture, ash, and sulfur content. Update -- CONSOL Energy To Begin Re-entry Process at Buchanan Mine CONSOL Energy started the re-entry process at its Buchanan Mine in southwestern Virginia and expects to start the ventilation fans over the May 14 - 15, 2005 weekend.
