To: Principals and Principals’ Secretaries From: Pam Houfek, Director Re: School Advisory Council (SAC) Roster and By-Laws/Guidelines Date: August 6, 2008 ______According to State Statute, each school must submit a School Advisory Council (SAC) Roster and SAC By-Laws annually. The template for the SAC Roster can be downloaded from the Angel/Web Learning System. Angel/Web is accessed from the district website (Employees>Login>Professional Development Documents Resource Area>School Advisory Council>SAC Roster or SAC By-Law Guidelines). For assistance with username, contact Shannon Yeager via BBS or extension 31394. Effective August 9, 2008, the login will be as follows:  Username is ‘A plus a 6 digit number’ which can be found on the back of the ID badge.  Password is last four digits of your social security number.

SAC Roster Membership  School-Based/Non-School-Based Section o As of July 2008, State Statute specifies that 51% or higher of the SAC membership must be comprised of non-school district employees. This is a change from previous years. In the past, the state stated that non-school-based employees must be greater than 50% compared to school-based employees. o Middle and high school students represented on SAC can be counted as non-school-based employees.

 Racial/Ethnic Composition o SAC members must be representative of the student population. The percent of SAC members needs to +/- 10 percentage points of the student population for each ethnicity. o Elementary, middle and high school students represented on SAC can be counted in this section. SAC By-Laws If there are no changes to your SAC By-Laws from the previous year, review the By-Laws with your SAC at the first meeting and electronically submit. A sample to develop/revise the school By-Laws is also available in Angel Web.

Both the SAC Roster and By-Laws must be submitted electronically to Professional Development, attention Hollice Derrick, by Friday, September 26, 2008. If there are questions or adjustments needed on the SAC Roster, Holly will contact the principal’s secretary for clarification, unless you specify a different person. Thank you for your assistance in completing the required SAC documentation.
