Guidance Office Information –March 2016 Dates to Remember: March 14-18: Ohio Graduation Tests April 4-22: Ohio Computer Based Assessments – End of Course Exams May 18: Senior Awards Night, 7-9 in Auditorium May 22: Graduation at 1:30 p.m.

Freshmen - Seniors: If you fail a core class (English, Math, Science, or Social Studies) for the year, you will need to take the class over next year or take the course in summer school classes if they are offered.. These are costly and could be avoided if you talk to your teachers when you do not understand something. Try different study techniques if what you are doing is not working! Tutors are available from the National Honor Society at a rate of $10/hour. Contact Mrs. Imwalle by email: [email protected], for information on tutors.

Sophomores: Applications to attend Vantage next fall need to be completed online with parents as soon as possible, for priority acceptance. The link for the application is posted on the Parkway website. Click on “High School” and then “Guidance Information”, then click on the link displayed for Vantage Career Center.

Juniors: ACT tests – Plan to take the ACT at least once during your junior year so you have time to re-take it during your senior year if you need to raise your scores. Register by March 4 for the April 9 test or by May 6 for the June 11 test date. Register at www.actstudent.org/start The test costs $39.50 or $56.50 if you take the writing portion too. Waivers are available in the guidance office if you qualify for free and/or reduced lunches. Paper practice tests are in the guidance office and in the hallway bookrack.

U.S. Service Academies - Applications for US Service Academy Nominations can be found at Rep. Robert Latta’s website http://latta.house.gov or U.S. Senator Rob Portman’s website www.portman.senate.gov These include West Point, Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, and the Naval Academy. There will be an academy information night

Scheduling for next year is beginning. Start thinking about what classes you need to meet graduation requirements and what your future plans are. Helpful website: http://www.BigFuture.org Parents will need to sign Course Request forms before students are allowed to schedule their course requests online.

ACT Prep Course at Fort Loramie HS on Sundays in March from 4-7 p.m. Cost is $80 for all 4 sessions. For information, email [email protected] or call 419-305-0816.

College Information: IPFW Health Career Day to be held on Friday, March 18, 8-noon. RSVP at ipfw.edu/health-careers Explore health careers, tour labs, get answers to questions about admissions, academic programs and more.

Ivy Tech Scholarships - Chancellor’s & Choice scholarship deadline is May 2. Applications online at http://www.ivytech.edu/admissions/ Select Northeast (Fort Wayne) region.

Ancilla College “Access Ancilla Day” will be Thurs, March 3rd, 12-3 in Donaldson, IN. Apply online for free at www.ancilla.edu. Associate Degree programs in Business, Nursing & Healthcare, Liberal Arts, Public Service & Education, Science & Technology.

University of Dayton “Explore Engineering” Event will be held March 5, 1-5 p.m. for any high school students. Juniors and seniors are invited to “Engineering Overnight Program” Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. – Sat, March 5. Learn more at go.udayton.edu/exploreenginnering. College Loan Opportunities: Medical Educational Foundation of the Academy of Medicine of Lima & Allen County, OH, provides loans to assist with tuition while in medical school. Rockford Chamber of Commerce Medical Dental Procurement Board offers no interest $1,000 renewable loans while in college & up to one year after graduation. For students entering fields of medicine or dentistry. For more information, contact Dan Henkle or another Rockford Chamber member.

You must give reference forms to 3 different teachers for the Parkway Community Organizations Scholarship application. Teachers will return the forms to the guidance office.

Please keep track of scholarships you are receiving from colleges and other entities & share that information with me to include in the graduation program. Please see me as soon as possible if you do not have plans yet for what you will do following graduation.
