The following books will be the assigned summer reading list for next year's AP European History course.
"Summer Reading List for AP European History Students:
1. The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli (Renassiance Unit) 2. Utopia by Sir Thomas More (Renaissance Unit) 3. Candide by Voltaire (Enlightenment Unit) 4. The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Fredrich Engels (Ideologies/Upheavals/Urban Society Unit)
The Prince and Utopia should be read first during the summer. Students should choose one of these two books and write a 7 page written summary of the work. The summary should be written in MLA format. This summary will be collected the first day of school.
Candide and The Communist Manifesto shall be read throughout the course and will be covered during their corresponding units. Students should be prepared to write a summary of these two books as well during the school year. "
