MARTHA A. CORLEY, OF 12 LEXINGTON COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HER 13 NINETIETH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS 14 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND CONTINUED HEALTH 15 AND HAPPINESS. 16 17 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 18 Representatives are delighted to learn that Ms. Martha A. Corley 19 will celebrate her ninetieth birthday on January 18, 2009; and 20 21 Whereas, Ms. Corley was born on January 18, 1919, in the early 22 part of the twentieth century, and she has been witness to nearly all 23 the incredible changes and developments that have come to this 24 nation from that time into the twentyfirst century; and 25 26 Whereas, the daughter of John and Daisy Corley, she grew up in 27 the home in which she was born and in which she has lived all her 28 life; and 29 30 Whereas, an educator for thirtyfive years with School District Five 31 of Lexington and Richland Counties, Ms. Corley served her 32 students during segregation, freedom of choice, and integration. 33 Immediately after retiring from her long and dedicated career in 34 teaching, she began volunteering with Meals on Wheels, at the 35 same time continuing active involvement with Pleasant Spring 36 AME Church, her lifelong spiritual home. At her church, she has 37 served in numerous capacities from steward to trustee, this last 38 position being one she still fills; and 39 40 Whereas, in recognition of her ninetieth birthday, Ms. Corley will 41 be honored at a celebratory gathering on January 18, 2009, at 42 Pleasant Spring AME Church in Irmo; and

[3242] 2 1 2 Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly 3 lovely lady at the celebration of her ninetieth birthday and joins 4 with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this 5 extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore, 6 7 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 8 9 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 10 by this resolution, congratulate Ms. Martha A. Corley, of 11 Lexington County, on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday, and 12 wish her a joyous birthday celebration and continued health and 13 happiness. 14 15 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 16 Ms. Corley. 17 XX 18
