ELLIS STOCKMAN ON THE 12 OCCASION OF HIS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY ON 13 FEBRUARY 26, 2015, AND TO WISH HIM A JOYOUS 14 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF 15 CONTINUED HAPPINESS. 16 17 Whereas, Mr. Ellis Stockman was born in Prosperity, South 18 Carolina in 1915; and 19 20 Whereas, Mr. Stockman married his late wife Mary Ruth on 21 August 27, 1937. The couple has two children, Magdeline (Jack) 22 Sutton of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Rev. Russell (Barbara) 23 Stockman of Nairobi, Kenya. They have five grandchildren and 24 eight great-grandchildren; and 25 26 Whereas, like many during his time, Mr. Stockman joined the 27 United States Navy and was stationed on the island of Samar on 28 PT Boat 17 during World War II; and 29 30 Whereas, after he returned home from the war, Mr. Stockman 31 moved to Batesburg-Leesville where he became the principal of 32 Batesburg-Leesville High School in 1946. He served there for 33 thirty-one years and retired in 1977. Generations of students were 34 blessed to have Mr. Stockman as principal; and 35 36 Whereas, Mr. Stockman was a member of the Lions Club for sixty 37 years. He was made a Melvin Jones Fellow for his dedicated 38 humanitarian service and has also received the International 39 President’s Certificate of Appreciation. Mr. Stockman is a local 40 treasure in his community. He still attends his church, St. Johns 41 Methodist. Mr. Stockman has never truly retired because he 42 remains active in a community that loves him; and

[443] 2 1 2 Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to honor this son 3 of South Carolina for the celebration of his one hundredth birthday 4 and the members join with his family and friends in congratulating 5 him on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore, 6 7 Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives 8 concurring: 9 10 That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, 11 congratulate Mr. Ellis Stockman on the occasion of his one 12 hundredth birthday on February 26, 2015, and wish him a joyous 13 birthday celebration and many years of continued happiness. 14 15 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 16 Mr. Ellis Stockman. 17 XX 18
