Advisors and Department Chairs - How will the students be counted? They will be counted in the undergraduate degree major until they receive their Bachelor’s degree. Upon completion they will then be counted in MPH once they apply and are admitted. - How will I know if one of our students is in this program? – Internal application. SPHIS will maintain a list of all students. 1. Why would I want a dual Bachelor-MPH?  The SPHIS offers a unique opportunity to a select group of students who not only demonstrate academic excellence, but also demonstrate a strong commitment to public health. Students have the opportunity to complete both the Bachelor’s in your declared major and an MPH degree more efficiently. In fact, while you are completing your bachelor degree you will simultaneously be earning credits toward your Master of Public Health. This dual degree program strives to graduate public health leaders who are committed to improving the health and well-being of our local, national and international communities. This is an appropriate program for pre-professional students who are interested in public health issues.

2. When can I apply for the dual Bachelor-MPH?  Upon completion of 45 credit hours of undergraduate course work.

3. What are the admissions requirements?  Undergraduate student in good standing in the University of Louisville  GPA of 3.3 or higher  Complete the Dual Bachelor-MPH Program Application.

4. What is the application deadline?  The School of Public Health and Information Sciences completed application form with all required materials, must be received by the SPHIS Office of Student Services by 3:00 p.m. on April 1 for applicants seeking admission in the fall semester and by 3:00 p.m. on October 1 for admission to the spring semester. - DO WE ACCEPT SPRING ADMITS?

6. What are the program requirements upon acceptance?  Maintain student status in the university  Earn a B- or higher in each of the five required public health courses. These courses are PHEP 501, PHST 500, PHMS 501, PHEH 500 and PHPB 501.

7. What is the maximum number of credit hours I can take as an undergraduate in this program?  Each unit has established its own policy regarding normal and maximum course loads. Refer to your unit information. Exceeding the maximum number of credit hours will not be permitted.

8. What if I received lower than a B- in a required public health course?

2  You will be dismissed from the dual degree program and will complete your bachelors degree. Upon completion of your bachelors degree you can apply to the Master of Public Health program and receive credit for the courses taken while enrolled in your bachelors program.

9. If I have been dismissed from the dual degree program, Wwhen can I apply to the Master of Public Health program?  One month prior to the receipt of your Bachelor degree you will need to complete an application for the MPH at www.sophas.org.  Bachelor degree from the University of Louisville  GPA of 3.25 or higher for unconditional admission, or 3.0 to 3.2499 for conditional admission  Grade average of 3.0 in the five required public health courses with no grade below B-

10. Do I also have to apply at the University of Louisville, School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies?  No. The SPHIS Office of Student Services will take care of this. If you are accepted to the MPH program you will need to pay the $50 UofL application fee.
