NHS Leadership Seminar Online Assignment Leadership Requirement Overview The four pillars of NHS are character, leadership, scholarship, and service. Since service and academics are already such an important focus for our NHS chapter, the leadership seminar requirement is designed to really help hone in on the first two pillars of our organization (character and leadership). According to national regulations, each member of NHS must obtain one leadership point sometime during the course of the school year in order to stay in good standing with the organization. If you missed the Leadership Conference on August 19, 2016, there are two more opportunities for you to earn your credit needed for this year. You can either attend the leadership seminar on Tuesday, April 25th from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Gold LGI, or you can complete the online assignment detailed below.

Online Assignment Overview Step 1: Watch a TED Talk video focused on understanding leadership. Below is a list of options that you can choose from to watch.

Step 2: Complete a 400 word essay addressing the following questions.  Which TEK talk did you choose? What is the main message of the TED talk that you watched? What examples, comparisons, and/or anecdotes are used to illustrate the main point?  In your opinion, is the speaker a credible source to be speaking on leadership? What do we learn about him or her during the course of the video?  Share an idea from the TED talk that you found surprising and/or intriguing. What struck you about this idea?  How can you apply the lesson(s) of leadership discussed in the video here at Atascocita High School or in the community as a whole?

This essay is due on Friday, April 28th for seniors and Friday, May 26th for juniors (identical to corresponding point deadlines). Please bring a printed copy of your essay to room 1910 by 3:15 p.m. on the indicted due date. You can also turn in the assignment early. Failure to turn in an essay or meet the essay length requirement will result in you not meeting the leadership point requirement. (Seniors – this leadership point is required in order to earn your graduation collar.)
