Chief Executive/Head of Fundraising - Job Description

Job Title: Chief Executive/Head of Fundraising

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Location: 27 Wilkinson Street, Sheffield S10 2GB

Accountable to: The Board of Trustees

Reporting to: Chair, Board of Trustees

Job Summary: To take overall responsibility for the effective management of the charity, supporting the Board in developing and agreeing strategy and for ensuring a sustainable business model moving forward. By owning the income generation and fundraising strategy, drive the charity forward to ensure financial stability and raise the profile of the charity with supporters across the sub region.

Responsibilities

The principle areas of responsibilities include:  Overall responsibility for day to day leadership and management of the charity  Work closely with Board to develop and implement our longer-term strategy  Management of the fundraising function including developing fundraising strategy  Act as the face of the Cavendish Cancer Care to our wider community  Management, development and support of the team of 8 core staff  Management of relationships with therapists, assessors, volunteers and supporters

Leadership and Management of Charity

1. Work closely with the Board of Trustees and the Management Team in setting strategy, annual budgets and monitoring progress against targets 2. Overall responsibility for the day to day management of the charity ensuring we provide a professional service at the Centre and in outreach areas 3. Act as the face of the charity internally and externally, raising our profile amongst all sectors of the community 4. Maintain oversight of all clinical aspects of our therapy service, be sensitive to the nature of therapy work and work with Head of Therapy Services on all aspects of service design and development 5. Looking at our present ways of doing things and suggest and implement improvements to make us more effective 6. Raising our profile outside of the Centre, finding new supporters and strengthening relationships with existing contacts by active networking Fundraising and Income Generation

1. Management of fundraising function (2 full time fundraisers) and delivery of annual fundraising targets (£384k in 2014/15) and agreeing stretch targets annually 2. Developing the fundraising strategy and accepting responsibility, working with the team, to deliver on the growth targets 3. Personally adding time, skill and energy into new fundraising activities to directly contribute to our fundraising and income generation target 4. Using existing business and personal contacts to enhance our fundraising effort and income and developing new relationships within the region 5. Widen the range of our activities and introduce new ideas and fundraising approaches and activities, increasing income from more sustainable sources 6. Applying a strong marketing approach to fundraising activities, increasing awareness of the charity more broadly in the region 7. Developing relationships with key influencers and gatekeepers to ensure our message reaches its widest audience

Managing staff and relationships

1. Implement and manage the personal development and review process for the charity, ensuring all team members have clear objectives, aligned to overall business strategy 2. Line management of Head of Finance & Resources, Head of Therapy Services and a team of two Fundraisers ensuring delivery against targets 3. Develop all policies and processes with support from Head of Finance & Resources, Head of Therapy Services and external support as appropriate 4. Managing and motivating our retained staff team in all respects in their day-to-day work and towards achieving outcomes and targets 5. Engaging with therapists, trustees, volunteers and others to establish a ‘can-do’ approach that sees the charity achieving targets and managing its own success 6. Supporting the team and assisting them in career development, skill and knowledge acquisition

Governance

1. Attend Board meetings and agree Board agenda with Chair 2. Ensure the charity complies with all Companies House and Charity Commission legislation, with support of Head of Finance & Resources 3. Work with the Management Team to lead the production of the Annual Report in time for the Annual General Meeting each year and in compliance with legislation 4. Ensure sufficient and compliant Risk Assessments are undertaken annually 5. To act as one of Cavendish Cancer Care’s representatives and to safeguard the good name and reputation of Cavendish Cancer Care by every reasonable means 6. Comply with all Cavendish Cancer Care’s policies and procedures at all times
