Dart Hockey Club www.pitchero.com/clubs/dart Junior Newsletter November 2014

What an eventful season we have had so far!

Boys U10s, 12s, 14s and 15s

The boys teams have started their season with great gusto!

The Boys U14s have had 3 tournaments so far– travelling to Dawlish, Exeter and Sidmouth to take on strong competition from the likes of Ashmoor and Marjons. This has been a big step up for last year’s U12 team, but they are proving themselves to be worthy contenders in the Devon U14 league, having won 2, drawn 2 and lost 2 games to date. The level of skill and team spirit within the U14 team has really impressed both our own coaches and those from other clubs.

Photo taken at the U14s tournament in Sidmouth on 9th November, in which Joe Ellis and Owen Sutton from our U12s team played up an age group and acquitted themselves admirably. In spite of an 8-0 defeat to a very strong Ashmoor side, the team bounced back to draw 1-1 against a strong East Devon side, with Joe Ellis scoring our only goal. Ross Pratt, sporting the newly donated junior keeper kit from club sponsors Valeport Ltd, made some fantastic saves in both games.

Next tournament for the U14s is on November 30th in Okehampton.

The Boys U10s have only had one tournament so far. This was the first ever game of hockey for some of our boys and they did brilliantly winning 1 game, drawing 1 and losing 1. Goals scored by Daniel Jones and Noah Sutton. Archie Townsend made some vital saves in goal.

The Boys U12s have also just had the one tournament – they opened their campaign in great style winning 3 games, losing 1 and drawing 1. New player Dan Chapman was top of the score sheet!

Both the Under 10s and the Under 12s are looking forward to their next tournament on Sunday 23rd November at Dawlish.

Friday night league

We have also entered the Friday night league in Exeter for the first time this year for the Boys U12s and U15s - this has been really well attended – many thanks to the parents for transporting and supporting! Girls Under 12s

Our first tournament came upon us very quickly at the beginning of the season. We managed to gather together 8 players and we all turned up at St Luke's raring to go. It was a new U12 team as most from the previous season had progressed up to the U14's. Welcome to Ella Taylor, Maddison & Phoenix Davis, Lauren McGinnis, Charlotte Tlustly, Mali Rundle and a couple of oldies with Ellen Ellis and Millie Snodin.

We had a total of four games of which we lost 1 and drew 3. We were lacking in goals but came very close on numerous times. Everyone ran their hearts out with only 1 sub and should be proud. We will look forward to the next tournament, scoring lots of goals and enjoying our hockey.

Player of the match: Ellen Ellis

Girls Under 14s So far this season the girls have competed in 2 rounds of the Devon under 14 league. On Sept 28th at Exeter School Dart had 2 games firstly against Exe (lost 3-1) and Plymouth Marjons B. (Lost 4-0). Jo Anders scoring Darts only goal. The second round Dart were far more confident and played some excellent hockey. On a glorious morning at Dawlish, Dart were delighted to win both games. Firstly against Teign which despite Teign taking the lead early on, Dart ran out winners after 2 excellent goals from Mackenzie Davis and 1 from Jo Anders. The second game Dart played Okehampton B team and had their best win ever. Jo Anders scored a hat trick and Mackenzie Davis and Teya Shepherd scored a goal each. Final score 5-0 to Dart. Ellen Ellis was outstanding in defence on both occasions deservedly won player of the match. U14 squad consisted of Carrie Hart , Millie Snodin, Ellen Ellis, Jo Anders, Mackenzie Davis, Rowan Hard, Ella Fraser, Jess and Ella Taylor, Mia Poore, Teya Shepherd and Zoe. The next round of matches are to be played at TGGS on 30th November.

Some of our U14s also played in an 11 aside triangular fixture against Exe 5ths and Okehampton. This was a combined Ladies team with some of our BACK to Hockey players and 2 or 3 of our more experienced players. This is the next step up for some of our juniors to experience 11 aside hockey. I t was a really fun fixture which the DART Ladies beat Okehampton 1-0 and drew 0-0 against Exe. Special mention to Millie Snodin, Rowan Hard , Carrie Hart and Teya Shepherd who all played brilliantly.

Any Mums or Dads thinking of taking up hockey again or maybe want to give it ago for a first time then please speak to any of the coaches on a Monday evening. We will always welcome new players of any age or ability. Other news….
