ULTIMATE FRISBEE
OBJECTIVE: To catch the disc inside the opposing team’s end zone and to successfully throw the disc to a teammate.
Equipment: Field area (short and narrow) A football field may be used when its divided into 4-5 smaller fields. Also an indoor gym may be used. Pinnies and Disc
Rules:
1. 7 players per team
2. Begins with a throw off (pull). After each goal teams switch ends.
a. Team A are all on goal line for throw off
b. Team A cannot touch disc while in air before a B player
c. If B attempts to catch disc and drops it, then A get possession
d. If B lets it hit the field, they take it from that spot
e. If disc goes out of bounds, B can take it at that spot or make A re-throw
f. If throw goes into end-zone, B takes it on goal line
3. Must attempt to throw and catch disc. If offense doesn’t catch it, defense may pick it up/if offense catches and drops it, it’s the defense’s possession
4. No hand-offs
5. May not walk or run with the disc. (Only 2-3 steps for momentum is accepted)
6. May pivot with disc
7. Defensive team gets possession if disc is dropped, thrown out of bounds or is not caught
8. No pushing, etc.
9. Can’t catch your own pass
10. 10 second limit to holding disc
11. A point scored if disc is caught with both feet in end-zone
12. DEFENSE: only 1 player can defend vs. offense 13. Can’t hit, knock or force disc away from offense
14. Defense makes calls, however teacher has final say
15. Can count out loud for a 10 second hold
16. If defense deflects disc to the ground, they still gain possession
GENERAL RULES OF ULTIMATE FRISBEE CONTINUED
KEEP IN MIND:
1. Field is rectangular shape with 2 end-zones at opposite ends of the field.
There are 7 players standing across the front end-zone to start a game or after a goal is scored.
2. Examples of fouls that will cause a change in possession are: making contact with another person, dropping the disc, running when you have disc and holding disc for more than 10 seconds. 3. Substitution is allowed when there is an injury, a timeout is called or after a point is scored.
4. When a team has possession of the disc, the team may pass the disc in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate.
TERMS
Cut-an attempt to get free to receive a pass
Defense-the team attempting to prevent a goal or pass
Flow-a series of quick passes to well-timed cuts (Should result in a point or goal)
Hand Block-when defender stops the disc directly after it is released by the thrower
Man on Man-most common type of defense. Each player is marked up to another player
Pull-the throw that initiates the start of each play
Offense- the team that has possession of the disc
