AR Test Requirements

Accelerated Reader – Independent Novel Project

In seventh grade you are required to read Accelerated Reader (AR) approved books and complete activities based on them. These are the basic guidelines.

Your novel must be labeled AR, be worth 5 AR points, and must be approved and recorded by the teacher. For each novel you read, you are required to take an AR test and complete an activity to correspond with the novel.

You will complete ONE AR PROJECT per quarter. Each quarter’s AR project will be different, and at times, you will have options for the project you choose.

The AR project is worth 30 points in the Summative Assessments category. The AR test counts for 1/3 of the grade (10 points); the AR project counts for 2/3 of the grade (20 points).

You are expected to have your novel with you at all times. There are many opportunities for SSR time. There will be “spot checks” to ensure that you have brought your book to class.

Always make sure you check to see if a book is AR or not. A novel does not always have an AR sticker on it. You can get an AR book from any library or bookstore, although it probably won’t be labeled.

Always check www.arbookfind.com to see if a novel is AR and its point value.

You can take the AR Test whenever you finish your book; just let me know. You can also take an AR Test whenever we visit the library.

The AR tests can be tricky, so use post-its to record important events/characters while you are reading.

You will have different project options each quarter. These are meant to reflect your knowledge and understanding of the novel, but they should also be fun to complete.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
