PART V: TEXTING: DO’S AND DON’T’S

Description: This lesson plan will explore the dangers of improper texting.

Objectives and Briefing Students: Suggestion: Students will be able to describe the serious consequences associated with improper texting.

Suggested Grade Levels: 5-6

Materials Needed: Computer with projector or Smart Board for accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Pens or pencils and paper for the Quick and Post-Presentation Assessments.

Procedures:

1. Conduct the Quick Assessment.

2. PowerPoint presentation.

3. Perform the Cooperative Learning Activity.

4. Perform the Post-Presentation Assessment.

Suggested Cooperative Learning Activity:

Have students get in to groups of 3-4. Tell them the activity is to plan out a skit where someone their age gets caught using an inappropriate form of texting communication, and some consequences that happen to them. For example, maybe have one student be a parent or teacher, another student be the person involved, and one student be a friend. Have the groups take turns performing the skits in class.
