Cosby High School Sep 12th, 2016 PTSO Meeting Minutes
Meeting was called to order at 7:04pm by President Vicky Cangelosi. A motion to approve August 2016 minutes was made by Lydia Kalata and Mr. Snyder seconded the motion. All were in favor and minutes were approved as presented. There were 19 members in attendance.
SCA REPORT- The SCA President, VP and Mr. Minyon presented their homecoming report. Homecoming Dance takes place on Oct 8. Overall theme for the week is the Olympics and each class represents a different country: Senior - USA, Junior - China, Sophomore - France, Freshman - Brazil. Spirit Week themes are as follows: Mon - Movie Monday Tues - Generations Day Wed - Royals vs Farmer Thurs - Olympics Sports day Fri - Class Distinction Day (white - Fresh, Blue - Soph, Black - Junior, Togas - Senior)
Parade - no cars allowed on the fields this year due to resurfacing so no parade nor floats but there will be a class performance.
Mr. Minyon enquired whether the PTSO will need tablecloths. Hospitality confirmed that they need 8 rectangle and 4 round cloths.
SCA will be in the school from 9-11am on October 8th, the PTSO will be in to set up at 11pm. School will reopen at 5pm for the dance.
Tickets will be sold during lunches by the PTSO from Tuesday to Friday (Oct 3rd - 7th). And parents are needed to volunteer on the night. A sign up genius will be emailed to the parent body for donations and dance volunteers.
All guest permission forms will be turned in the Friday prior to the dance. (Sept 30)
TREASURER’S REPORT- Paula Carlin presented her report. The accounts for the 2015/16 school year have been audited and paperwork completed. The ending balance in the checking account was $15,963.71.
Paula presented the budget for the 2016/17 school year. There are no additional line items over last year. There is a small increase of $40 to the Guidance Assistance Fund.
Motion to approve the 2016/17 PTSO Budget was made by Ginger Martinez and Katina Schoolfield seconded the motion. All were in favor and the budget was approved as presented.
The current balance in checking account is $16,591.29. The books are in balance and have been reconciled to the Village Bank account. There is now a petty cash fund that will be maintained at $150.
Highlights include: Teacher Appreciation - $972.76 Faculty Recognition - $300 CCPS Printing - $214 Hospitality - $471.24 Insurance - $370 Post Prom - $225.38 Petty Cash $150 Deposits o Membership - $1,585 o T-shirts - $851.18 o Crazy Bread - $65 o Invest Now - $220 o Cause Network - $47.77 o Goodwill - $100
Motion to approve Treasurer’s report was made by Michele Farren and Darline Wilder seconded the motion. All were in favor and the report was approved as presented.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT- Vicky Cangelosi thanked everyone who helped with fee night. She mentioned that if the administration team had any comments for the 2017/18 year to please let the PTSO know. Vicky mentioned that Brooke Mancini did an excellent job coordinating volunteers for both fee nights.
V.P. REPORT Bricks - the PTSO has received 7 orders from the information packet that was sent home with each student. Fundraising - Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night - Tues Sept 13th, 2 signs have been put up at the entrance. Teachers will be able to order breakfast from Chick-Fil-A from the October 11th spirit day. Mexico Restaurant Spirit Night - Monday Sept 19th. Mexico does not advertise this but in the past Dawn Hicks made signs to advertise the spirit night. T-Shirts will be sold during lunches on Thursday and Friday and two volunteers are needed to sell the shirts. A sign up genius for volunteers will be sent out for future lunch sales. Krogers Program has changed for this year - there is a code that is issued which can be used on any online account so that points are earned for the school every time the shopper shops at Kroger. This year points earned will be turned into dollars.
Denim Drive ends October 15th.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT - Mr. Snyder presented his report and thanked everyone for all the help and support on fee nights, and in especially in light of the faculty breakfast which followed very early the morning after Freshman fee night. The teachers were very appreciative of the food and the gift cards. He also thanked the PTSO for the gift cards for the Terrific Titans monthly teacher award. He reported that Chrome Distribution will take place on Wed Sept. 14 Catherine Brewington has put in a request for $320 towards her costs to attend the Virginia Association of Science Teachers conference. Mr. Snyder recommended that $100 be given to Ms. Brewington from the Professional Development funds of $600. Tonya Johnson made a motion to approve $100 be given to Ms. Brewington to attend the conference and Paula Carlin seconded the motion. All were in favor and a check has been given to Mr. Snyder to pass on to Ms. Brewington.
The Counselling Department has requested $500 of the budgeted line item to assist students with the Chromebook fee.
FACULTY REPORT - Mrs. Canipe had an emergency and could not attend but sent thanks on behalf of the faculty for all their help towards a great start to the year.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
HOSPITALITY REPORT- Lydia Kalata presented that the faculty breakfast was a great success and the next hospitality event will be homecoming, which does not appear to be any different from previous years.
Lydia noted that the date for the chili luncheon has not been set for the year. It was decided that a date will be set later in the year.
MEMBERSHIP - There were 729 PTSO members for the 2015/16 school year and to date 707 members have joined the PTSO for the 2016/17 year.
VOLUNTEERS- no report
GROUNDS- no report POST PROM - Tonya reported that RISE has been reserved for April 22nd 2017. Tonya also suggested the post prom fundraising Phone-A-Thon be scheduled for 15th/16th Feb 2017 with snow dates scheduled for Feb 22nd /23rd. There does not appear to be a conflict with these dates.
BACCALAUREATE - No report
WEBSITE REPORT - Darline needed confirmation of hospitality committees for the website - Dawn Hicks, Lydia Kalata, Mary Ward Melissa Johnson, Maria King and Tammy Wilson Fundraising - she also needed dates for all spirit nights in local restaurants. Ginger will supply these.
BOOSTER SHOTS - Melissa enquired how many Booster Shots volunteers are required for Homecoming. It was suggested 20 would be sufficient. She also asked that Shelly be removed from the email circulation list.
OLD BUSINESS - none
NEW BUSINESS- Michele reported that last year the PTSO had considered purchasing more benches form Twist and Turns to match Dr. Mayo’s bench. As a reminder there will be no artwork cost for any future orders.
