Project summary - The project is an effort by AFA to contribute to improved land governance by acting as Asia regional focal point for a global and independent land monitoring initiative that promotes transparency ILC grant: to be completed by GAA

GRANTS ACTIVITY FORM and accountability in decisions over land and investment.

- It builds on the achievements of the first year and extends efforts in the 4 areas of work such as data collection, networking, research and communication.

- It invests in capacity building for the regional data unit and potential data contributors, users and partners in the areas of data collection, analysis and advocacy.

- It carries forward the decentralization process of the Land Matrix and aims to increase involvement by regional, national and local stakeholders.

- It launches a bold ambition on the use of data for lobby and advocacy by farmer organizations on the issue of large scale land acquisitions.

Project activities STRENGTHENING THE REGIONAL DATA UNIT

- Support Year 1 staff complement (regional data coordinator and regional data admin) and hire additional regional research and communications person to improve efforts in gathering, processing and sharing information on LM data and the work of the AFP (May 2016) DATA COLLECTION

- Expand data collection, validation and updating from 12 countries to all 64 Asian countries in the Land Matrix (including review of data entries by JASIL in the countries they cover – 5 in Central Asia)

- Review/validate/update 100% of existing deals

- Search for possible “data contributors” and give an incentive or fee of 50-250 USD depending on the data collection service provided NETWORKING

- Identify and make contact with possible data contributors all Asian countries in the Land Matrix and introduce them to the regional and country pages where their names logos can be added (August 2016)

- Conduct regional consultation on LSLA in Asia to identify issues for advocacy (August 2016) RESEARCH

- Contribute case studies to the Land Matrix Analytical Report to be released in May (May 2016) ILC grant: to be completed by GAA
