This course is offered in the Folsom Lake College Main Campus (FLC) Personal Learning Environment (PLE) /Library. For the online orientation and other information, visit: www.flc.losrios.edu/~bustec. Students must have access to a computer, the Internet and have an email address. Email is the primary contact with the instructor – include full name, student number, and course name and number in the subject of all emails. Enrollment in college assumes maturity, seriousness of purpose and self-discipline. Students are expected to fulfill the requirements of all classes in which they are registered. The instructor will not drop students . Students are responsible to drop within the published deadlines to avoid penalties. Failure to submit a Drop Request to Students Services will result in an “F”. Deadlines are in the Class Schedule.

Required Material: Removable memory media (memory stick, floppy, R/W CD ROM)
Course Description: This intensive introductory computer keyboarding course emphasizes operating alphabetic, numeric, and symbol keys by touch. It includes computer- keyboarding techniques, speed and accuracy development, proofreading proficiency, essential computer-keyboarding information, and use of basic features of a current office- level word processing program. Section 3: Learning Outcomes and Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: apply ergonomic principles required to maintain posture, hand positions, and avoid eyestrain. demonstrate the proper use of alphabetic, numeric, and symbol keys while using features of a current office word processing program. demonstrate the ability to type at least 24 words per minutes with no more than three errors on a three-minute timed test. examine and accurately proof read a document to detect errors and correctly mark the errors for correction. Method of Instruction: GDP software presents the course content in a systematic approach, offering keyboard introduction, skill building, and language arts instruction. In the lab, select the program from the Start Menu. From home, install the CD and follow the instructions. The instructor is available during the office hours listed above. All work must be sent to the instructor using D2L.
Grading: Final grade is based on: Completion of Lessons 1-20 WPM with 5 errors or less on two-minute timings in Lessons 1-20 33+ = A 29-32 = B 24-38 = C 20-23 = D 19-below = F Completion of the Final Exam 99-100 = A 95-98 = B 90-94 = C 80-89 = D 79-below = F Completion of a three-minute timed typing test in the lab. The test may be taken upon completion of Lessons 1-20, anytime during the instructor’s lab/office hours. Students must bring their text and removable memory media and a photo ID.
Incomplete grades will not be given.
Schedule: Students set their own schedule either at home or in the computer lab. Students may finish the course as soon as they have completed the requirements, or by the end of the eight weeks. The following schedule is recommended:

Reports of Lessons 1-20 and the Final Exam must be sent to the instructor using D2L The final exam is a link on the syllabus and will not be returned.
