Comment on Draft Sustainability Plan Mayor Greg Fischer and the Louisville Metro Office for Sustainability have issued a draft Sustainability Plan for Louisville, which highlights 19 broad goals and 60 initiatives surrounding sustainability. The plan, “Sustain Louisville” is open for public comment through February, and will then be finalized in March. Mayor Fischer is asking citizens to specifically provide feedback on which of the 60 initiatives is most important to them. View the draft plan here. Kentucky Waterways Alliance (KWA) is getting ready for their 5th Annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival at the Clifton Center on March 2nd and they need your help! This is KWA's 20th Anniversary; Wild & Scenic is going to be the kick off for our year-long birthday celebration. This festival grows each year and they expect this to be the biggest year yet, so they will need all the help they can get! The “502 Restaurant Week”, which will debut February 22 – March 3, will feature special pricing of $50.20 for two people or $50.20 per person for a full meal, depending on the restaurant. Submit Nominations for Green Spark Award Nominations are now being accepted for recipients of Project Warm’s Green Spark Awards through February 15th. The Green Spark Awards recognize individuals and organizations that are making strides in energy conservation and efficiency in the Louisville community. The Green Spark Awards will take place at the Seelbach Hotel on April the 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. KentuckianaWorks Has $485,000 Training There has never been a better time for unemployed or underemployed residents in Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble counties to start training for a career in healthcare or information technology. KentuckianaWorks, Greater Louisville’s Workforce Investment Board, is making $485,000 available in KentuckianaWorks Scholarships to fund education and training in these two high-demand career fields. The scholarships are available until June 30. The KentuckianaWorks Scholarships are free assistance that will provide up to $4,000 for tuition and $600 for books and other supportive services per year, up to two years. Funds can be used to complete a college degree in a healthcare field or information technology (IT), get an associate degree or enroll in training. Thursday, February 7: The Clifton Center, located at 2117 Payne Street, will host a concert by singer-songwriter and Grammy nominee Iris DeMent on Thursday, February 7 at 7:30pm. The show is part of the "MINI of Louisville LIVE at the Clifton Center" series and will be held in the Clifton Center's unique vintage Eifler Theatre. A cash bar will be available. Sunday, February 10: Beargrass-St Matthews Historical Society Program at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthews City Hall, located at 3940 Grandview Avenue. Program is "Advocate for Union: The Pre- War Jefferson Davis" presented by Mel Arnold. Kentucky-born Jefferson Davis was a highly effective and respected soldier, planter, senator, and U.S. Secretary of War. Davis left his initial military service to become a planter. Ten years later he found his niche and success in politics. The state of Mississippi and the entire country benefitted from his dedicated work at the national level. Davis was the last Southern senator to give up hope for a compromise that would save the Union which he believed should never be divided.
