NEWEST IMAX  3D AVIATION FILM SET TO PREMIERE IN (CITY)

LEGENDS OF FLIGHT FROM ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR STEPHEN LOW PROVIDES AUDIENCES WITH UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE ON FLIGHT AND THE EVOLUTION OF TODAY’S AIRCRAFT

CITY, State. (DATE) -- Legends of Flight, which recently had its worldwide premiere at the famous Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum theater in Washington, D.C., will be shown locally at ( name of theater ) beginning ( date ). Filmed in 15/70 3D for IMAX theaters and other Giant Screen venues, Legends of Flight is a visually captivating presentation that explores the relationships between natural flight, advanced design, innovative assembly techniques and operational technologies that have brought us to the dawn of a new era in aircraft design.

Profiling milestone aircraft having influenced later aeronautical design and performance criteria, Legends of Flight is the latest Giant Screen feature film from acclaimed Canadian filmmaker, Stephen Low. Low has been the recipient of some of the industry’s most prestigious awards for his work on 15 previous giant screen productions.

Legends of Flight brings a new perspective to aviation through the inestimable skills and personality of The Boeing Company’s chief pilot for the 787 Dreamliner, Capt. Mike Carriker. Truly deserving of the accolade airman, Carriker has pilot time in more than 130 aircraft types and serves as the audience’s guide, interpreter, flight instructor and amiable companion. His guests will soar engineless through breathtaking mountain passes, feel the wind in their hair barnstorming in a Stearman bi-plane, and will experience sheer flight exhilaration as a Harrier Jump Jet leaps into the sky at the pilot’s command and then rockets to tactical speed.

Bringing the past into the present, Legends of Flight’s highpoint is the pre-flight drama surrounding the world’s most anticipated commercial aircraft’s maiden flight – the first flight of the 787 Dreamliner. Capt. Carriker, with the audience as his co-pilot, takes the airplane skyward for the first time.

Beyond the technical marvel that is IMAX photography – where advanced cameras and ancillary cinematic technologies complement the storytelling abilities of large format cinema – is Legends’ innovative use of SANDDE™ (Stereoscopic Animation Drawing Device) Animation. Developed by IMAX co-founder Roman Kroitor, SANDDE enables Capt. Carriker to literally draw in space, allowing the audience to see his technical explanations illustrated on the screen. Moving in real time, the SANDDE animation adds to the audience’s understanding of sophisticated engineering and aeronautical principles.

“Fundamental to every IMAX production is the goal of educating the audience, not merely entertaining them. SANDDE helps accomplish this and Capt. Carriker’s innate understanding of complex aeronautics allows him the opportunity to make complicated things easy to understand for any person interested in flight,” said director Stephen Low.
