Good Morning Again,
I went to a Region 19 meeting last night and wanted to share some important information with everyone. Our numbers for our teams are light, yes, but we do have some options.
There WILL BE the parish league again this year (some of you may have heard some rumors that there was not, I heard the same. It is FALSE.
Remember, there are two leagues: Parish, which plays 8v8 and Region, which plays 11v11. The difference other than the players is that when you play Region, you can qualify for Region playoffs and championship, Parish you cannot.) K-1 and 2nd grades play 5 plus a goalie.
As of today, the numbers I have are as follows:
K-1 = 6 2nd = 7 Novice 3rd-4th Girls = 4 Novice 3rd-4th Boys = 8 JV Girls = 6 JV Boys = 7 Varsity Girls = 10 Varsity Boys =10
Is there anyone on this email list that did not sign up yet because the deadline has come and gone? Is there anyone that has a child that wants to play but you cannot afford the registration cost right now? The GOOD news that George and I learned last night is that the rosters are not due on the 17th. The date was pushed back a week.
Therefore, I am going to open the registrations up again to everyone.
Please tell your friends to contact me ASAP. We are trying VERY hard to keep these kids together and to keep this CYO program together. Please HELP us do this. Not for us, but for our kids.
IF we do not have enough kids for a team, we have some options:
We can combine teams and make it a CO-ED team. Example: Novice G and B together. The only issue would be, they would be required to play in the boy’s league, not the girls. We can do this for every team. I know some of you may not be happy with this option. I would need you to be up front and honest about this. The other option is to move your kids up to the next team. K-1 to 2nd, Novice to Jv, Jv to Varsity.
I also want to make VERY clear. IF we do have teams for each level in any capacity, your child would NOT be allowed to play for another team. This is my understanding as the rule states, if your parish has a team, you cannot play for another region 19 team. If, however, we cannot make any of these options work, you can play for another region 19 team. I will do whatever I can to make sure your child DOES NOT get left out or does not get on a team. You all have my contact information. I am available to talk you through any of your concerns. I ask that you speak to me directly. I am here to help you and your child and do the best thing for them, I do not want to see anyone hurt or upset about a situation. George and I spoke with a St. Bede's coach last night. He made it sound like they would work with us to get our kids on a team. We asked them if they would be willing to give us some kids and, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like they would be willing to do that. Sometimes things are easier said than done, but we will make it work.
I do have coaches for most teams but if you have an interest in coaching or assisting, please reach out to me ASAP. For ALL coaches and assistants, you MUST have your clearances up to date. I need to give your information to Nora at the rectory so she can check them. If you need clearances, please contact Nora at the rectory. She can help you. There is a COACHES ORIENTATION scheduled for Saturday, August 20, 2016 at St. Andrews from 8-1. IF you're a first year coach or have never done this, you will need to attend this. Please let me know. I also believe that there is a class being held immediately after for one of the clearance requirements.
If anyone knows of any high school kids that are interested in being a ref for our K-1, 2nd and Novice games, please contact me ASAP with their information. There is a REF CLINIC on Wednesday, August 17th at the Disney field (St. Mikes) from 6:30-7:30pm. I would suggest that anyone interested attend this important session.
Last, but not least, I would like to know if anyone knows any kids in high school that would be interested in playing for our CYO. I would like to start this league up if we get enough people interested. I know tryouts are next week so some may not know what they want to do. Please spread the word and let people know that they can reach out to me. They didn't have all of the rules at the meeting but I believe that we may be able to have a limited amount of kids that play for their school to also play for our CYO.
Thank you for your continued support of our CYO program.
