ONLINE HYBRID COURSE (Attendance required for film screenings only, Tuesdays 6:00-9:00 pm)

The course is designed to provide an introduction to the biggest movie industry in the world and its implications for social change in South Asia and beyond. The course will include an examination of a selection of important popular Bollywood films, and the functions each serves in a social context. The objective of the course is to understand not only a non-Western process of filmmaking but also to understand the construction and reflection of the changing socio-political contexts in South Asia. This includes a close exploration of the impact of a growing South Asian diaspora on Bollywood cinema.
