SUMMARY

Miss Spider was having a tea party and wanted to play with all the other insects. However, the other insects were scared of Miss Spider. Then something happened and the next day all the insects wanted to play! It's a fun book of counting. --- Conversation Questions---

(1) Name the main character of the story. (Answer) Miss. Spider. (Follow Up) Tell me what you thought was the best part of the story.

(2) Suppose you were Miss. Spider. How would you have felt if no one wanted to come to your party? (Answer) Any logical answer. (Follow Up) Have you ever had a party that no one came to?

(3) Imagine you were the fireflies and saw Miss Spider's web. Would you have gone to her party? (Answer) Any logical answer. (Follow Up) Why do you think they were afraid?

(4) Recall a big party that you were excited about attending. (Answer) Any logical answer. (Follow Up) Did you enjoy the party as much as you thought you might?

(5) Define "sobbed". (Answer) Crying very hard. (Follow Up) Name something that might make you sob.

1. List the insects that were in the story.

2. Draw a tea set and tell who is coming to your party.

3. Draw Miss. Spider and the flowers. Label each one.

4. Make a thank you note to Miss. Spider from her friends.

Introductions

1. Show the children a rubber spider. Ask if they are afraid of spiders. Tell them that today we will read about a spider that wanted to be friends with some insects, but they were too scared at first. Let's read and find out what happens.

2. Show the children pictures of bugs and spiders. Ask them if they think that spiders and bugs could be friends. Why/why not? Tell them that in our story today Miss. Spider has a tea party for some insects, but they did not want to play with her. Let's read and see why.

3. Show the children a little tea set. Ask them if they have ever been to a tea party. In our story today, someone has a tea party. Let's read and find out if anyone comes to the tea party.
