JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Bilingual Health and Wellbeing Advocate

HOURS: 1 day per week (7.2 hours)

SALARY: £4,309 (pro rata based on fulltime salary of £21,543)

JOB SUMMARY: The Bilingual Health and Wellbeing Advocate will be responsible for providing individual advocacy and support to service-users with health, wellbeing and integration needs from refugee communities in Islington, Camden, Hackney and Haringey. The Advocate will also facilitate the delivery of Information and Support Groups for refugee communities on a range of health and wellbeing issues.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Health Advocacy Service Manager

LIAISON WITH: Other Bilingual Health and Wellbeing Advocates, Projects Office, Community Interpreting Volunteers, other HAS staff, relevant external service-providers and community organisations, other Manor Gardens staff.

Deadline for Applications: Tuesday 8th August 2017

Interviews: Week commencing Monday 14th August

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Community outreach with refugee communities in Islington, Camden, Hackney and Haringey to promote the service and facilitate access for potential service-users.

2. Provide initial assessments and bilingual advocacy support to service-users (for example advocacy in healthcare and other relevant appointments, inform clients about their entitlements and options and refer to relevant specialist services).

3. Ensure that service-users leaving the project have appropriate on-going support / information.

4. Arrange and facilitate Information and Support Groups on relevant health and wellbeing issues in partnership with other project staff and specialist / mainstream services.

5. Work in partnership with the Volunteer Community Interpreters to ensure service- users communication needs are met.

6. Ensure accurate monitoring data on activities are collected as required and available to staff for evaluation.

7. Ensure accurate records of service-users are kept in an appropriate and confidential manner, compliant with the Data Protection Act. 8. Work within and promote the Health and Safety, Child Protection and Safeguarding and Adult Safeguarding practices and procedures of the Manor Gardens Centre at all times.

9. Abide by and actively promote Manor Gardens Centre's Equal Opportunities Policy and all other policies in force in the carrying out of all responsibilities.

10. Be aware of the Centre's aims and objectives and treat beneficiaries, staff, volunteers and visitors with respect and consideration.

11. Other reasonable duties that may be required from time to time.

Experience, knowledge & skills MEASURED BY

Established links and networks within hard-to-reach communities in Application Form Islington / Camden / Haringey/ Hackney Interview

Ability to speak and write English and a second language to a high Application Form standard; Interview Experience of bilingual community work and providing support to Application Form community members; Interview

Experience of keeping accurate record of activities and performing Application Form administrative tasks; Interview A good understanding of benefit services in the UK and the challenges Application Form refugee and migrant families experience in using these services. Interview
