JOE R. WREN FOR HIS 12 FAITHFUL SERVICE AS PASTOR OF SUMMERVILLE 13 BAPTIST CHURCH UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS 14 RETIREMENT FROM ACTIVE MINISTRY ON JUNE 3, 2012, 15 AFTER FORTY-SIX YEARS OF CONTINUOUS PASTORAL 16 MINISTRY. 17 18 Whereas, the members of the Senate have learned that Dr. Joe R. 19 Wren, Pastor of Summerville Baptist Church since 1990, will 20 retire on June 3, 2012, after forty-six years of continuous service in 21 pastoral ministry; and 22 23 Whereas, Dr. Wren was born on April 12, 1944, in Gaffney South 24 Carolina. He received his B.A. from Winthrop University, a 25 Masters of Divinity from the Southeastern Baptist Theological 26 Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministries from the Southern Baptist 27 Theological Seminary; and 28 29 Whereas, prior to his service in South Carolina, Dr. Wren pastored 30 churches in both North Carolina and Tennessee; and 31 32 Whereas, his denominational involvement includes membership on 33 various committees of the Southern Baptist Convention, the 34 Tennessee Baptist Convention, the South Carolina Baptist 35 Convention, and Charleston Southern University - Board of 36 Trustees, member and President; and 37 38 Whereas, throughout his ministry, Dr. Wren has also served in 39 various capacities in local Baptist associations, including 40 moderator of associations and president of pastor’s conferences; 41 and 42

[1530] 2 1 Whereas, in his spare time he has enjoyed membership with his 2 local Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Kiwanis and he also enjoys 3 golfing and football; and 4 5 Whereas, he and his wife Kaye are the proud parents of three adult 6 children, Beth, Joseph, and Clary, and they also have five 7 grandchildren, Chloe, Cille, JJ, Lilly, and Wren; and 8 9 Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to have this 10 opportunity to recognize the distinguished career of Dr. Joe R. 11 Wren and to honor the significant contributions of this great South 12 Carolinian. Now, therefore, 13 14 Be it resolved by the Senate: 15 16 That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and 17 honor Dr. Joe R. Wren for his faithful service as Pastor of 18 Summerville Baptist Church upon the occasion of his retirement 19 from the active ministry on June 3, 2012, after forty-six years of 20 continuous pastoral ministry. 21 22 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 23 Dr. Joe Wren. 24 XX 25
