Accelerated Reader Code of Honor

1. I will choose appropriate books – “just right” in terms of difficulty and length based on my individual abilities. Racking up a bunch of points by reading books that are way below my level is not something to be proud of. Choosing a book that is too hard for me doesn’t do me any good either. The purpose of AR is to help me GROW as a reader.

2. I will only take quizzes on books that I have read and understood thoroughly. Once I’m an independent reader, my comprehension AVERAGE should stay above 85% if I am doing a good job choosing appropriate books and reading them successfully.

3. I will not try to pass a quiz from watching a movie, video, or TV show. (That’s why it is called Accelerated Reader – not accelerated movie watching )

4. I will play fair and not cheat. I will not discuss AR quiz questions or answers with other students and I will not take a quiz for another student.

5. I will answer all questions honestly and to the best of my ability on both AR and STAR tests so I can grow as a reader. This includes the question about:

a. READ TO = a teacher, parent, student, or electronic device read the book to me

b. READ WITH = a teacher, parent, student, or electronic device listened to me read and/or helped me with lots of words, sounds or ideas.

c. READ INDEPENDENTLY = I read all of the book on my own with very little help (very few words provided - relative to length of book)

6. For independent readers – I will have a copy of the book I read independently with me at the computer so I can correctly locate the right quiz. HOWEVER, I will not look back at the book to help me answer the questions because AR is for testing what I remember from reading. I have read and/or had the code of honor explained to me. I understand and agree to follow these rules for the AR program.
