Module : LANDFORMS Vocabulary Investigation One

Landform: a feature that makes up the earth’s surface, such as a plain, mountain or valley.

Model: is a representation of an object or process.

Boundary: is the limit or border of an area or region.

Symbol: an object or picture that represents something else.

Map: a representation, usually on a flat surface, of an area or the features of an area.

Cartographer: a person who makes maps.

Geologist: a person who studies the Earth and the materials of which it is made.

Grid: a system of intersecting lines that form squares.

Legend: a key on a map. A legend gives explanations for the symbols on a map.

Structure: is something built by people, like a building.

Inventory map: is a map that shows graphic details, such as seats in a stadium or buildings in a city.

Thematic map: is a map that shows populations or natural resources, such as a weather map.

Mobility map: is a map that shows locations of streets and roads, such as a road map.

General reference map: is a map that shows physical features, such as mountains, rivers and lakes.
