BOARD OF EDUCATION
October 10, 2017
The Braxton County Board of Education met on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Braxton
County Board of Education Office. The following members were present:
Jill Cooper, President Dave Hoover, Vice President Shane Brown Van Carr Brad Shingler
Jill Cooper called the regular board meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Jill Cooper led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dave Hoover led a non-denominational prayer.
Ovis Rose signed in as a delegation with his concerns about the football program.
Van Carr moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the consent agenda items
(approval of September 26, and October 6, 2017 meeting minutes, payment of bills, budget transfers and supplements and transportation requests).
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Shane seconded to approve the following personnel actions:
Resignations – Professional:
1. Cara Foster – Title I Teacher at Flatwoods Elementary effective retroactive October 2, 2017 2. Amber Hart – Title I Teacher at Davis and Frametown Elementary effective October 6, 2017 3. Joseph Seth Elmore – Substitute Teacher effective October 11, 2017
Employment/Reassignments – Professional: 1. Susan Kearns – 21st Century Math/STEM Instructor at BCHS effective October 11, 2017 2. Miriam Cook – 1/2 Split Grade Teacher-In-Residence at Flatwoods Elementary effective October 19, 2017 3. Donna Haddox – Substitute Teacher effective October 11, 2017 4. Sandy Post – Principal at Little Birch Elementary effective date upon release from current position 5. Shawn Cooper – Substitute Teacher effective October 11, 2017 6. Carla Mauser – Title I Teacher at Little Birch Elementary – Possible TAW (Time Away from Work) Days beginning October 15, 2017
Contract Agreement between Principal and Supervising Aide for 2017-18 school year:
Casey Dyer – Sutton Elementary
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve fundraisers for Flatwoods Elementary, BCMS and BCHS.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Shane Brown moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following parent volunteers for
2017-18 school year per background check:

The meeting adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
