ASL II: Instructional Video Assignment Sheet

Name/Period: SLG202: Movie Translation Assignment Sheet Directions: you are to choose a three minute segment of a video or DVD and practice interpreting it. 90% of the three minutes must be dialogue. Don’t choose a scene with a song to interpret—no songs, no matter how long, only dialogue.

I strongly suggest that you choose a children’s video/Disney movie; however the video rating doesn’t matter (i.e.: G, PG, PG-13, etc.) because we will be watching only a three minute segment of the movie.  Make sure your three minute segment has NO swear words or INAPPROPRIATE SCHOOL content. If it does you will fail the assignment.  Your clip must have at least two characters and cannot be ONLY a somber, sad, scene that requires no non-manuals (i.e.: the eulogy from The Fault in our Stars). If you make me cry you fail the assignment… am I joking? Hmm.  You will turn on the DVD/VHS and play the three minute segment. While it is playing you will be standing next to the screen interpreting. No paperwork/glossing is due for this assignment. Do not gloss out a script. Just keep watching and signing until you get it.  You are not aloud to video tape this assignment—it must be done LIVE.
