Emission as a function of the viewing angle

For the angle-resolved emission measurements, all three samples are investigated in terms of angular emission from either the blue or the yellow unit only, as well as both units in combination by applying a symmetrical square-wave signal with a frequency of 50 Hz (Figure S1). In the latter case, the different blue emitter spectra as well as the different voltage response of each blue unit lead to emission spectra corresponding to different locations in the CIE diagram, with S1 and S2 being closer to the color point E compared to sample S3. Although the transparent thin film metal electrode between the blue and the yellow emitting unit introduces additional micro-cavity effects within the device, all three samples show acceptable shifts in color over the viewing angle (Figure S1). Figure S1 Emission spectra of the blue (left column) and yellow (middle column) units of samples S1 (top row), S2 (middle row), and S3 (bottom row) as well as the combined emission of both units under a symmetric square wave signal at 50 Hz (right column) with the corresponding CIE coordinates over the viewing angle.

Movies demonstrating device operation principle

Movie S1 Device operation of sample S1 upon application of a square-wave signal. The operation frequency is increased step-wise from 1 Hz to 5 Hz, 10 Hz, and 50 Hz.

Movie S2 Device operation of sample S1 upon application of a square-wave signal with a frequency of 50 Hz. The pulse-width is varied in small steps from 100% positive half-cycle (blue emission only) over 50:50 positive/negative half-cycle (blue and yellow emission for an equal amount of time) to 100% negative half-cycle (yellow emission only).
