 Monthly Assembly

 Other Items

School Planning Council Consultation on School Organization: Wade met with the SPC in early September to discuss our school organization. Currently Jerene Penner is the only active member of our SPC. I would like to request that PAC select 3 more parents to serve on our SPC this year.

Heddwen Braun has agreed to join the SPC for this school year.

Accelerated Reader: AR will once again be taking place at Cheam this year. A special thank you to the PAC for helping fund this program at Cheam. The staff would like to request that funding be considered (and set aside if possible) for this program by the PAC for the 2012-2013 school year.

Terry Fox Run: Our Terry Fox Run took place on Sept 23rd. The feedback that we have received is that it was enjoyed by both parents and students. Thanks to the PAC for helping to organize volunteers and with providing freezies for our students. School Photographs: Our school photographs took place today (Sept 29). By all accounts these went quite smoothly. I would request some help from PAC and parent volunteers in organizing the collection of funds around school photographs this year.

Bus Evacuation Training: This will take place tomorrow (Sept 30) at 9:15 a.m. This will help ensure students are safe on the bus during field trips.

Teacher Job Action Information: I have had a number of requests from parents asking about teacher job action. All information on teacher job action will be posted on the school district website. In addition, when I receive information from the school board office I will communicate this by e-mail on our parent e-mail list.

Early Dismissals: As per the letter that was posted on our website, early dismissals this year have been cancelled until further notice as a result of job action. Early dismissals have usually been scheduled to allow for parent/teacher interviews after report cards have been sent out. If you would like to know how your child is doing, you can always approach the teacher regarding this matter. Due to job action, no report cards will be sent out.

TREASURER’S REPORT (Tina Schadek):

Current balances as of today:  Gaming Account $4394  Regular Chequing Account $4100 We just received our gaming grant and the total was $2740 (this is based upon the school population from the previous year).

We have 3 years to spend gaming account funds that we receive every year.

Our fiscal year ends June 30th and we make sure that Accelerated Reader funding (approx. $2200) is available for the next school year.

OLD BUSINESS:

Question raised was how many students do we have currently at Cheam. Wade said we had 142 students. Gaming updates discussed above.

NEW BUSINESS:

Regarding Grade Six Grad and fundraising for this, this will be held off due to job action for now. Aquarium is booked tentatively by Wade. No deposit was needed. Potholes in parking area was brought up. How do we get this fixed as it has been a concern for awhile. Suggestion made to write a letter on behalf of the parents of Cheam and Wade can show it to maintenance.

 Treasurer: Renee Budda  Secretary: Joldie Hayes will take on if meetings are during the evening  Fundraising: Meg Blankley was nominated (waiting to hear back from her), Jen Torio has said she would help out after school hours  Events: Cheryl Ward & Sharon Bertoncini were nominated.
