School Psychologists and Interns Things to do during the first 30 days of school

Prior to first 30 days Contact/Notes 1. Sign and return your contract 2. Attend or schedule HR orientation (safety precautions) 3. Work with HR and DESE to get your certification 4. Attend SSD NTO- a. Set up email b. Meet your AC and Director 5. Access Solutionwhere a. Register for Academy I b. Register for EXCEED Training 6. Access Sharepoint/SSD Life 7. Familiarize yourself with Voice Mail 8. Review and understand DESE standards and indicators for disability eligibility http://dese.mo.gov/divspeced/stateplan/index.html 9. Contact Dorothy Luna (8128) to schedule a time to pick up your test kits, protocols 10. Check all of your test kits to ensure they are complete 11. Schedule a time to pick up your laptop 12. Check to see that you have the scoring programs you need for your tests 13. Contact your Intern Supervisor/Mentor 14. Attend Partner District NTO/Orientation a. Contact AC about what meetings you should attend

School Starts- First Week 1. Introduce yourself to school personnel a. Principal, Secretary, Counselor, Special Education staff 2. Identify your work space a. Make sure you have a locking file cabinet with a working key b. Ensure space is appropriate for testing c. Work with AC regarding any work space issues and supplies 3. Identify space to meet, hold conferences a. Identify procedure for reserving meeting space 4. Work with Supervisor/Mentor and AC to create a work week schedule- a. Indicate when you will be at each school b. Allow time in your schedule for report writing c. Share your schedule with school personnel d. Use Locator Log, Outlook Calendar Share, or Communication tool identified by AC 5. Familiarize yourself with the case log as method of organizing cases to ensure compliance 6. Identify existing pending cases that are in process from last year. a. Use your Supervisor/Mentor, EPS, AC, or the previous psych. b. Review cases, review EXCEED, review SSD CO’s file for cases c. Make contacts with all members of the evaluation team to ensure they know what they should be doing and by when d. Begin scheduling testing and necessary meetings 7. Create a contacts list with the names, roles, phone numbers and email addresses for essential people (AC, AC secretary, schools' secretaries, counselors, SLPs, etc.) 8. Inquire about your access to partner district’s email and voice mail a. May not be possible depending on district – check with AC b. If you get partner district email, get connected with the different groups (e.g., principal’s group) to make sure you stay informed of school & district events 9. Identify process for referral with school counselors; check for current Referral documents including packet, Parent Bill of Rights, and Procedural Safeguards

First 30 Days 1. Discuss with special education teachers possible reevaluations with assessment a. Schedule a meeting with SPED teachers to review their caseloads for triennial reevals b. Elementary schools- YCDD reevals for Kindergarten students. c. Schedule reevals with assessment early enough in the year to avoid the end of the year deluge of initial evals. 2. Contact problem-solving teams/care teams to indicate your desire to participate on these teams 3. Discuss existing Data Teams with your AC, including your role – if Data Teams are being formed this year at your school(s), take steps to include them in your monthly schedule 4. Begin entering case data into your Case Log 5. Begin attending Academy I sessions (starts August 29, 2011) 6. Order business cards (forms available on SSD Life)
