The course gives information about all the stages of the interaction between magma and fluids. Main studied topics are: the role of the fluids for the melting of the source rocks and for the different melt formation; the role of the fluids for the magma physical properties (density, viscosity, diffusion); the role of fluid for the different mechanisms of magma evolution (fractional differentiation, melt immiscibility, assimilation and contamination and magma mixing); role of the fluids for the magmatic crystallization; magma degassing; formation of the orthomagmatic ore-bearing hydrothermal systems. HYDROTHERMAL ROCK ALTERATION English Summer 4 30 30 R. Nedialkov
The course comprises as well the theoretical bases of the rocks hydrothermal alteration study as the practical information for the search and the prospecting of the hydrothermal ore deposits. The course examines the main principles of the alteration theory: the differential mobility of elements; the principle of the constant volume of the rocks during hydrothermal alteration; the zonal arrangement of hydrothermal alteration rocks and others. The factors influencing hydrothermal alteration processes are studied. The methods of the alteration rock study are introduced as well as the classifications of hydrothermal alteration rocks. In details (geology, mineralogy, zonal distribution, P, T, and Ph of the hydrothermal alteration processes) are studied the main metasomatic associations: skarns, fenites, K-silicate alterations, greisens, beresites, propylites, quarts-sericitic alteration, argillitic alteration, advanced argillitic alteration, quartz-adularia- sericitic alteration, quartz-turmaline-chloritic alteration and others. VOLCANOLOGY English Winter 4 45 15 R. Nedialkov
The course gives information about the main characteristics and peculiarities of the volcanic activity, the different types of volcanic eruptions, the different types and the formation of the volcanic facieses. Detailed characteristic of the volcanic rocks (effusive, pyroclastic and epiclastic) is given. The methodic of field work in volcanic terrains and the laboratory investigation of volcanic rocks is explained. The formation and the morphology of volcanic bodies is explained. Studied are the processes of fragmentation of the magma and the formation of the pyroclastic material. The transport and the deposition of the pyroclastic material are explained as a result of pyroclastic falls, flows or surge. The principles of the facial analyze are studied. Special attention is paid on the work on contemporaneous active volcanoes and their monitoring and also on the paleovolcanologic reconstructions. The evolution of volcanism in space and in the different tectonic setting are also studied. The history of the volcanic activity on the Bulgarian territory is also studied. HOUSEHOLD WASTE MANAGEMENT English Summer 3 30 15 R. Nedialkov
The course on “Household waste management” aims to give basic knowledge on the activities related to the management of the urban wastes. Students will be introduced to the main elements of the relative legislation in Bulgaria and the European Community which are regulating the waste management activities. In the course will be done the determination of waste, the classification of wastes, will be introduced the REMECOM method for waste morphology determination and the determination of their quantity. Will be explained the organization and the activities of the collection and the transportation of urban wastes. It is foreseen to give information about the valorisation of wastes as recycling, pyrolise, incineration, composting and others. In the course will be explained the activities related to the deposition of wastes in landfills the rules about the landfill construction. The factors for genesis of climate at global and regional scale are analysed. The special attention is given to the impact of atmospheric circulation, earth surface and anthropogenic activity on climate. The peculiarities of the regime and spatial distribution of climate elements are presented. On the back ground of global and regional climate the microclimatic differences are analysed. GENERAL GEOMORPHOLOGY English 2 semesters 8 60 30 30 Ahinora Baltakova (BACHELOR PROGRAM) (summer/wi (4 per nter) semester) The course of General Climatology aims to give students an introductory understanding of geomorphological concepts, process mechanics, and relationships between landforms and processes. The lectures consistently consider mechanism, landforms and products of endogenic processes, the processes of weathering, the chief types of sediment transport (fluvial, aeolian, coastal, glacial), and sediment deposition. Exercises are empirical and practical and follow the lectures topics. METHODS OF CLIMATIC RESEARCH English winter 5 45 - 15 Nina Nikolova (MSC PROGRAM) The course "Methods of climate research" provides knowledge about meteorological time-series and quality control of meteorological information. The general and specific statistical methods for processing meteorological data and analysis of spatial and temporal variations of meteorological characteristics of the main climatic parameters are considered. Students get acquainted with methods for calculating the number of climatic parameters (for individual meteorological elements and phenomena, complex indicators and extreme climate events). Spatial attention is given to the methods for studying climate change at regional and local scale.

Prof. Kosyo Stoychev DIPLOMACY PhD Short Description: The course objective is to form a professional attitude to geo-economics and its importance, focused on the theory of economic growth in different types of nodal and homogeneous regions. The basic perception is that the geo-economic policies and diplomacy should be subject to scientific concepts of holism and systematic approach that would transform the various policies into synergistic and cumulative spatial effects. The course emphasize on cluster concept that has the theoretical and practical power to create groups (clusters) forming region-sectors with a competitive advantage and trade patterns. Students are introduced to basic spatial economic regularities in the formation of modern structure and organization of the world economy / geo-economics. The theory of localization of business organizations in geographic space, the factors and conditions for the spatial organization in the different regions of the world are articulated. Particular attention is paid to the most important raw-energy resources and key industrial products and technologies.
