A. Independently responsible for complying with UCSDMC policies and procedures, Department of ______and hospital licensing requirements. Coordinates the preparation and completion of appropriate clinic, inpatient and patient care documents and progress notes associated with each assigned patient encounter to ensure timely submission and abstraction of data.
B. Administers ______to patients as required.
C. Supervises staff residents, clinical fellows and nurses involved in cases.
D. Reviews cases assigned and type of procedures prescribed for each case; ensures that necessary supplies and equipment are available and that machines and monitors are functioning properly. Discusses pain evaluation with the residents, fellow or CRNA assigned to the case. Ascertains condition of the patient(s) prior to and during procedures and/or operation by reviewing laboratory results, respiration, taking and recording blood pressure parameters, pulse and observation of other physiological parameters. Administer pre-operative and post-operative medication, as required.
E. Oversees the placement and care of indwelling venous catheters, fluid and electrolyte therapy, and whole blood transfusions. Skilled in resuscitation procedures.
F. Maintains cognizance of legal aspects of medicine and pain management including informed and implied consent, liability and responsibility. Undergoes continual educational updating to maintain skills in physiology, pharmacology, distribution of agents and drugs, updates on newer monitoring modalities and management of difficult medical and/or pain cases.
G. In operating situations informs operating surgeon of significant physical changes. Takes remedial action including administration of medication or oxygen. Performs post-operative follow-up in the recovery room. Maintains timely, accurate and complete medical records.
H. Oversees and ensures cleanliness, sterility and maintenance of variety of medically related machines, monitors and equipment.
I. Maintain current expertise in management of surgeries, including ______, and follow-up critical care.
J. Maintain current expertise in pain management.
K. Serve on hospital and departmental committees when requested. Attend hospital and departmental committee meetings, when required.
ADMINISTRATION REQUIREMENTS (ESSENTIAL) A. Candidate must be California State Medical Board licensed physician, who is board certified in ______. Medical specialty requirements are outlined by the American Board of ______, or other specialty boards, if double-boarded.
B. Incumbent will continue education to meet requirements and to maintain proficiency, as well as to learn new techniques and current state of the art methodology as required.
C. Provide standard and detailed ad hoc reports and analyses from this data as necessary.
D. Possess ability to write clearly and concisely.
E. Possess ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
TRAINING (ESSENTIAL)
A. Because UCSD’s mission is to teach, all Attendings must be able to teach residents, fellows, CRNAs and medical students.
