COMPOSITION OF LEAGUE Rule 10.2 This rule has been a bone of contention for many years and has caused great concern and hardship to those clubs that it has affected. If we look at the present situation, with no eastern clubs being relegated from County Division 1, Perranarworthal find themselves located the most ‘easterly’ western club so they would be transplanted into Division 2 East for the 2007 season and it could be a ‘life sentence’. The accepted geographical split across mid Cornwall has been determined over the whole 100 year existence of the League by usage and is well known. We, the Clubs, considered it expedient to bring in the existing Rule but expediency is dangerous at best and often wrong in principle and can be disruptive – it changes the whole league format of East and West. It can be grossly unfair to the clubs which are affected, being moved or even relegated through no fault of their own, on a geographical basis. The League will present proposals at the AGM at the end of January regarding promotion and relegation to put into place rules for the 2007 season to prevent a repeat situation occurring in the future and ending the need for teams to have to transfer between east and west sections. In the meantime a decision needed to be made now to accommodate the 2007 season in order that the divisions are finalised and fixtures drawn up After much deliberation since the end of the season the LMC have formulated the 2007 divisions in accordance with League Rules 6.1, 10.3 & 11.1.7. They have decided that Perranarworthal will not be transferred to Division 2 East. As a result the Team finishing second from bottom of Division 2 West in 2006 (St Just 2) will be demoted. They would have been an automatically relegated had Constantine not withdrawn at the start of the season from the division. This will give a 12 team Division Two West in 2007. Likewise in Division 3 West (11 teams after Praze’s withdrawal) bottom club Perranarworthal 2 are to be demoted. No other division will be affected where the standard promotions and relegations will take place, however four eastern teams have now been reprieved relegation. In fact due to vacancies overall only 7 teams in the 14 divisions have been relegated while in contrast 26 teams have been promoted. The LMC’s aim is to get teams back, and to remain, in their rightful sections where possible. With this in mind they have decided that Gerrans and Perranporth will swap sections in Division 3 to return ‘home’. Also, at the request of clubs, the lowest eastern division has been zoned to avoid lengthy travelling for teams that are mainly made up of younger players. Herewith the ‘line up’ of Divisions for the 2007 Season with the following taken into account: 1 Avoiding the transfer of a Western Division 2 team to the East. 2 Getting as many teams as possible back into their natural sections. 3 Lowest division in the east section zoned to avoid lengthy travelling Additionally vacancies have had to be made up across the divisions following a total of eight withdrawals in 2006 - Constantine (2W), Praze (3W), Trelowarren Arms (5W), Veryan 2 (7W), Penzance 4 (8W), Stoke Climsland (4E) and since the end of the season RAF St Mawgan (8W) and Penryn, who would have been in 5W in 2007.
